6750xt bottlenecking 5800x3d?

Blqckqut
Go to solution Solved by hollyh88,

I don't understand your issue.

Gpu usage should be as close as possible to 100%. 97%-100% is still fine. It shows your cpu is letting your gpu perform as good as it can. I'm also thinking of getting a 5800x3d to pair it with my 6950xt (currently paired with a 3800xt) it will mostly also be fully utilised unless a game is completely broken with using the cpu. What isn't a good % is what I have now in some games with my pairing aka around 80% from time to time. Which indicates a cpu bottleneck. Its not fast enough to provide my gpu with what it needs.

20-40% usage in cpu is fine too. That means that roughly 4 to 6 cores of its physical cores are being utilised properly. That's perfectly fine. Not all games will use 8 cores(50%) and your cpu reaching 77 degrees isn't exactly bad. It can be a hot cpu due to the 3d stack.

seeing 97% usage on gpu in warzone 2 and most games while having 20-40% usage on cpu

i am planning to upgrade to a 6950xt next month

in the in game benchmark ive seen that 6750xt is 99% bottlenecking the cpu but thats just absurd lol, probably some issue with the benchmark

i am undervolting the 5800x3d with -30 on all cores, i am seeing probably about a 8% fps loss and at some time 16% because of this, but at least it runs at 64° now instead of 77°

Dont forget to mark as solution if your question is answered

Note: My advice is amateur help/beginner troubleshooting, someone else can probably troubleshoot way better than me.

what are your gpu usages after the undervolt?

Also its much better to have a gpu bottleneck rather than a cpu bottleneck

overclocking gpu (2875 core, 2312 memory)

usages are 97% mostly at 2828mhz

undervolting cpu (i used Ryzen 5800x3D Undervolt Easy Tutorial: Better temps, less power consumption, better CPU. | ResetEra guide so idk if itrs trustworthy or good but used both pbo2 and undervolt in bios)

You GPU is bottlenecking your system

I hit 700W on an i5 with a NHD15

Also I'm 14 so please just confirm anything I say with someone more experienced

5800x3D if I remember correctly was a 4.5GHz chip, so as long as you're not undervolting it to the point where its losing performance, I wouldn't worry about it.

When we're talking about gaming, I don't really think you can bottleneck a CPU. Its more dependent on whether your GPU or the CPU is the limitation, where a game like Warzone will usually be limited by your GPU with a sufficiently capable CPU. Ideally you're GPU limited since that means you're not leaving GPU performance on the table.

the entire reason for getting a new cpu was to get more frames, i already lost 16% fps by undervolting, my gpu sits well at 50-60° at 97% usage, no need to undervolt, i dont wanna lose more performance, i wanna squeeze the most i can of my system, the only reason i undervolted was because i was too scared of my cpu hitting the limit and thermal throttling since it went to 82° once

5800x3D is really a set and forget sort of CPU. Enable DOCP and gg. -30 is a bit aggressive as well, I remember my 5800x3D not liking more than -10.

this won't lower your performance tho, it'll give you higher boosts for the same power draw. It worked with my 3060 and should with your 6750 xt

power draw is at about 202W even tho i set it to use +15% wattage, so thats pretty weird...

for AMD chips the thermal limits are different. E.g. an intel 13600k can run at 105 degrees but as @Blqckqut showed a ryzen 5000 series chip can't break 95 (or in the case of the 5800X3D 90)

My experience with the 5800x3D, you're likely to get more performance running a 3600MHz kit and therefore fclk at 1800MHz than most things since PBO2 is disabled on the chip. My original motherboard with the 5800x3D was the ROG Impact x570 which did for some time have PBO2 enabled, and it was giving me 4.7GHz boosting. PBO2 as an option just magically disappeared one day without a UEFI update which was strange.

PBO2 as an option just magically disappeared one day without a UEFI update which was strange.

can i oc my ram (3200 kit) to 3600? its kingston fury rgb (2x16gb)

so i can put it safely to 4.7ghz?

what do you recomend in general, i really do wanna put in the effort to making it the absolute best

You basically can't get the 5800x3D past the like 45.5x multiplier without doing stuff you probably shouldn't. I don't have my 5800x3D in hand to test those sorts of things anymore (lives in my brother's PC now) so I can't validate whether you can do blk overclocking or not. There was just a fringe scenario where my motherboard allowed my 3950x's PBO settings to apply to it that was likely pushing the base clock past 100MHz to get 4.7GHz boost clocks.

Overall I'd set the DOCP profile and maybe an undervolt, but TBH, its a set and forget CPU. Its not the type of CPU you're dialing in, even in comparison to the 7800x3D that lets you do PBO2 per core tuning. You can probably take a 2x16GB 3200MHz kit and run it at 3600MHz safely, just copying the timings from a 3600MHz kit. Just make sure you get the fabric clock to 1800MHz to make benefit since Ryzen 5000 series has those 1:1 between the fclk and mclk (not the case in Ryzen 7000). So with the fclk and mclk at 1800MHz, you'll get solid performance. The actual memory speed doesn't seem to impact, but if you're setting fclk to 1800MHz, you should have mclk 1:1 for stability, therefore having your memory at 3600MT/sec.

To reiterate though, the 5800x3D isn't designed nor should be overclocked/tinkered with outside of fclk and mclk. Its just not designed for that. Past 1800MHz fclk:mclk, its probably not stable nor will you see any real gain.

I think I remember this being a relevant source at the time regarding 5800x3D overclocking.

ya if you are losing 16% then the undervolt's too much, the 5800x3d is a very efficient cpu, pretty much just enable docp, check temps and you are good to go.

As long as the gpu is running near 100% at almost all times, you good.

i know next to nothing about timings, can you provide them or is it a general thing you can just look up (aka general thing, not model based)

so i can put it to 4.55ghz then? (45.5ghz)

and also the article is corrct yes? i assume so because you havent said anytihng about it (especialy the undervolt and cppc they said to do)

and then -10 on all cores or leave stock?
