RTX 4060 Ti or 3070 Ti

Is the 4060 Ti better than the 3070 Ti? Will the 4060 Ti require a 1000 watt PSU or something like what the other 40 series cards require? I saw the specs but I am confused if it's better, I don't want to buy something which might not be bang for the buck.

It will definetly not require a 1000w psu. It'll probs require a 550w one or 650w one. get an AMD card instead, the 6800/xt or 6700 xt as their better for the money

Message me on discord (bread8669) for more help

Perf wise they're probably going to be similar ball park, like for like. Obviously newer GPU will have the new features too.

PSU is no worry at all. I ran a 4070 + 11700k on a 550W PSU for a time. No problems. Ampere had some ultra short term power peaks which meant it needed bigger PSUs than otherwise, but not a problem at all with Ada.

Don't buy either, 8GB in 2023 is a horrific buy, at least at the prices these cards sell / will sell for.

That not true. 4060 Ti is 1080p High settings GPU or at best 1440p Medium that mean 8 Gb is more than enough.

And if you don't use RT you basically not have any problem with 8 Gb

What resolution do you play on? What games do you play? Depending on your answer, the 8GB of these two GPUs may or may not be enough.

As for power usage, Techpowerup says the TDP of the 3070ti is 290W and recommends at least 600W for PSU. No data yet for the 4060ti, but given the trends, the TDP would be lower than 290W. So a 1000W PSU isn't strictly necessary.

At worst 8GB will do 1440p medium. For most older games you can still go high+ even at 4k. Only on a few newer ones might turning down to medium be suggested.

4070 is 200W so I'd expect 4060 Ti to be similar or lower. It shouldn't bother any reasonable PSU.

It probably will either be closer to between a 3070/3070ti. So perf wise the 3070ti is better. But neither are a good option and your better off to go with a 6750xt for around 3070 perf. And 6800/6800xt for above 3070ti perf. Unless you absolutely need av1 or the cuda cores. But if you game amd is just better for your money. Neither of the gpu I mentioned including the 4060ti will require you to have 1000w psu. You will be fine with 650. And possible 500 for the 4060ti but always go with more than you actually need and not barely with what you need.

That's not true at all. If it comes close to a 3070 or in-between a 3070-3070ti how on earth does that make it a 1080p card? The 3070/3070ti was a 1440p card. It's just nvidia doing nvdia things. Because the only limitation will be the 8gb version unless you get the 16gb but for 500 dollars new us you will be able to get so much better.

If I look on microcenter I see several 6800 below 500 and 6800xts around 500.

Price is always rise due inflation and manufacturing cost due more complex GPU dies with every new generation. That not fair at all compare GPU prices between different generation. Even 4060 Ti will cost same as 3070 Ti is not mean that manufacture that die cost same. You need be really naive if think that new generation GPU will cost same or even lower. Everyone want lower price but need live in reality not dream world and understand that new generation GPU cost many billions to make and with every generation it become harder and harder due they need shrink more and more transistor on same die that cost many billions investment.

Currently I play at 1080p, I play games like Dota, Apex Legends and I want to play the latest games too. But I might upgrade my monitor in the future. I think I would rather go with a GPU that has 12 GB or more VRAM after reading all the replies here.

6700xt if you really need a new card now.

6800xt if you have the budget and plan for 1440p or higher refresh rate monitors.

Since your focus is on multiplayer games, raytracing is probably not the biggest priority for you. Therefore you should save on your money and get the suggested AMD cards, they also are more generous on VRAM than Nvidia.
