Dimondminer11 got a reaction from unclewebb in Power Limit Throttling even with Unlimited Power Limit
Did you miss my update? The CPU after repasting it... again... draws 60-65w at 4.1GHz under an all core load. Although now it is throttling the VRMs due to those getting too hot. When I get a job again I am going to get K5 Pro and replace my janky hand cut thermal pads I used for the CPU VRMs. When I repasted it I noticed my janky thermal pads were not making proper contact on 1, maybe 2 of the chokes.

Dimondminer11 got a reaction from freeagent in I think the 5800X3D is Black Magic
Under my NH D-15 its only the Tdie temp that gets kinda high (around 90C) but core temps stay around 70 C under load. I managed to snag my 5800x3d for $280 and sold my 3900XT for $240 so I am into a 5800X3D for like $40.

Dimondminer11 got a reaction from Darknighterror in I7 12700kf or r9 5900x
This is just a rude comment my guy. OP in terms of which way you should go the 12700kf is an option but the 12700k is better for troubleshooting down the line and if you care at all about any Intel Quicksync (?) stuff that can be nice. If you want the most out of the 12700K you'll want a Z690 motherboard which those start at $200. For the 5900X, while it is slower, it is a good bit more power efficient and has FAR cheaper motherboards that support overclocking. (decent ones start around ~$150 for overclocking a 5900X) And for the cooler you should just go for an NH-D15 or an NH-U12S as they are cheaper and, in the case of the NH-D15, provides 95-100% of the performance of that 360mm AIO, not to mention its bulletproof in terms of how long it'll last.

Dimondminer11 got a reaction from Sen.Armstrong in What is your opinion on this Acer Aspire 5? Should I buy it?
Would be far smarter to buy an older used gaming laptop. I bought an Alienware 15 R2 and, after upgrading the logic board, it put me at $700 total for a pretty quick system. However that laptop should be more than fine for playing FFXIV

Dimondminer11 reacted to D2ultima in How to OC my laptop RAM?
And? RAM benefits you straight. You can get 3000MHz RAM for laptops. You're telling this person that better RAM speed than the almost certainly 2133MHz 15-15-15-35 shit RAM that laptops come with by default is pointless, and that attempting to OC it grants no benefit but many downsides.
This is false.
He will see benefits from faster/tuned RAM; he's simply unable to actually overclock it with his system.

You're pretty much factually wrong.
Since the "AW" model line (I.E. post-M17x, M18x, etc) the BIOS has been secure-flash locked. You cannot flash a BIOS. Period. You can flash something to an empty BIOS chip and replace the existing BIOS chip, but good luck with that.
If you don't have the ability to adjust your timings, then you can't do it. You might have success using Intel XTU to change the timings, but I can't guarantee that it'll even let you fiddle with your timings.
Don't listen to them. Good RAM makes a big difference. It raises minimum framerates, and flat out can reduce CPU loads in games. It's even better in some cases to get better RAM than to overclock, as you will see in the link higher up in this post.
Almost everybody knows jack shit when talking about RAM but they're quite ready to speak as if they do.

Dimondminer11 got a reaction from Needfuldoer in TBW of a HDD
As far as the amount of data written to a hard drive goes it is generally unlimited* but the * meaning that its only going to be able to be written to for as long as the drive still actually FUNCTIONS. It has no write limit where it'll die. HDDs just die generally from the actuator arm dying or the motor that spins the hard drive platters failing.

Yes it will cause no harm at all. I can definitely sympathize for bloatware that does stuff like that for power consumption reasons.

Dimondminer11 got a reaction from Origami Cactus in How do I export my videos from my Mac to my Iphone
Just grab a lightning cable and plug it into your mac if it has a usb port (Idk if you have a type c to lightning or the OG type a to lightning cable) and unlock your iphone when you do that. It'll prompt you if you want to share data access to this machine, you click yes. Then you can transfer videos to your mac albeit at slow USB 2.0 speeds

Dimondminer11 got a reaction from ebprince the computer nerd in Is this a good deal?
The 5500xt is FAR slower than the GTX 1080. As it happens to be though I do have a card that I want to get rid of right now. Its a GTX 980 Ti which is 30% faster than the 5500xt (according to userbenchmark) BUT the GTX 1080 is still faster by 30% again above the 980 Ti.
TLDR get the GTX 1080. Its a better deal all round.

I can confirm that over here in southeast Kansas its down too. You can't search on Amazon and anything related to it seems to not work/do anything.
Edit: It seems to be back

Dimondminer11 got a reaction from bupcraft in using two pus's with the green wires connected
If you are fine with loosing any sort of warranty you might have maybe it would work but I'd recommend against something like that as a cheap GOOD PSU can be found for just $65 (I'm talking about the cooler master one GN reviewed)

If you havent tried it yet why not try it now? Chances are things might just magically work out of the box :p. If xp 64bit works that means there is some level of driver support on the 64bit version.

This can save drivers from a system so you can install them on another.
That's supposing the driver will even work on win7, not guaranteed.

Dimondminer11 got a reaction from Herman Mcpootis in Which 150$ power supply is the best here??
They just make the highest quality units out there. At $150 you could probably get a unit from them that will last 10+ years. I bought a rosewill glacier unit and after 3 months of mostly light with some moderate load it popped. They sent me a proton unit as a replacement which is what I'm using right now.

Ahh I se okay, I will pick the “Seasonic USA Focus Plus 750 Watt 80 Plus power supply“ for my friend. Thx all for the help!

Dimondminer11 reacted to Taf the Ghost in Microsoft finds underwater datacenters are reliable, practical and use energy sustainably
For 2-5 year cycle deployments, this makes sense. They're nitrogen filled, so you get less oxygen exposure issues, along with the biggest cost saver: world's largest water cooler outside the system. I could see the use for these in a lot of places.
The main thing is that Major Cities are always new large bodies of water. In the case of ocean-side cities, it's basically a "Free Real Estate" play because you can just put them right off the coast. I could see MS even doing this in the Bay near Seattle as a next feasibility testing. I suspect these could be very popular in a decade in, say, Tokyo Bay or Singapore.

Dimondminer11 got a reaction from Harit Paurana in ROG Phone 3 vs OnePlus 8 Pro
I mean they are both OLED and I think the ROG phone also has a 10 bit panel. If you really want the uber high refresh rate experience then the ROG phone is fine I suppose. If you want you can even enable 165hz mode via the adb.
