teddygala reacted to Lurking in hide entire thread created by a user I "ignore"
Currently when I set a user to "ignore", their comments are hidden. But if those ignored users start a thread, I still see the threads they start (with comments from non-ignored users and so on). iI would be nice if those threads would be totally invisible to me as well. That would make it easier to totally ignore those users.

That would make the forum look somewhat cleaner (for me and anyone ignoring users).

Unless I somehow missed that option (but I did look).

those are definitely all the right protections for IP owners, seems like a good change and I'd be happy to see that over the upcoming NFT hosting companies I've seen on other channels.
(assuming the change has been implemented as they say, we've heard the same from social media advertisers)

I'm not quite sure is this the right place for this discussion, but I was listening to the latest WAN Show and I heard LTT is going to collab with Dream. And to be quite honest, I don't think it's a good idea. There's so much controversy around them (beyond the cheating issue, like how Dream basically said that doxxing is fine and it's not really a problem if their fans doxx a random person on Twitter)

I think you should re-evaluate this collab, and possibly do some research about Dream to form your own opinions about the topic. I also heard that DankPods was in a need of a NAS, I think the collab could be with DankPods instead of Dream.

I was planning to build a pc early 2021 but due to the gpu shortage I can't find any RTX 20-30 or RX 50-60 graphics card for a reasonable price. So far only decent pre-built pc I come across in my country is this one on the screenshot. All the newer gpu pre-built pcs are way too expensive.
I am planning to get a pc I will use for a year or two before I upgrade to last gen. Is this system powerful enough to carry me through next year or should I wait couple months and build a pc with better hardware.

No, they're selling at cost because they have competition. This is viable because they sell you further things down the line, but it is not why they sell at cost.

People want convenience, companies exist to make what people want, if people want convenience then its no surprise that companies make convenient products.

Its a side effect of capitalism and consumerism.

Apple Watch SE is actually the best value right now. Latest display with internals of last gen. If you don't care about altimeter and oxygen level, it's a pretty cool piece of tech. Not sure why they had to make it faster instead of more power efficient. Apple Watches are already so fast everything on them is butter smooth.

This is why people might not want to laugh at Apple going with ARM chips for future Macs. It's already using technology that even AMD will have to wait for, let alone Intel, and it won't have to pay AMD or Intel prices for chips. It's easy to imagine a future MacBook (not necessarily the first ARM model) that's faster than all Windows laptops in its class and still costs less.

Mark Gurman is on point like always though. This is what he posted not too long after Prosser had made his tweet:

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could recommend some new books about HW architectures (cpu, gpu, mobo stuff, memory (although it hasn't changed much), etc.), I know some old-ish ones but my understanding is that no books cover the latest tech (2014+), or are there new releases? Thanks in advance!
P.S. Also any books covering modern APIs? Something not too hardcore tho, don't know much about them.

Thanks so much for joining. My vision is a community based on positive member interaction and helping each other. I believe that if we all work together toward this goal, we will have success in the long run.
We don't have official forum rules or anything like that yet, but as long as everyone is respectful of each other, and patient with the growing pains that we are going to experience (vBulletin 5 is VERY beta right now) we can make this into an AWESOME community forum.

teddygala reacted to Zodiark1593 in Is faceID worth the notch?
The notch is largely non intrusive. The only place where it really sticks out (only applicable for the LCD models) is when you’re watching video in the dark where it is dark in the video itself, and you can perceive the faint glow of the backlight.

Some websites don’t adjust gracefully to keep important content out of the notch when in landscape mode, or at least not right away. Reddit will sometimes just throw content into the notch. Other sites never posed a problem, like the LTT forums.

Otherwise, it’s fine, and generally non intrusive. Video content will not be impacted by the notch at all.

Fun tidbit, the iPhone also runs the IR emitters when using animojis. Using another phone camera (or any camera packing an IR cut filter, this is easy to see in action.

Under screen cameras are already a thing they're just not really good enough yet. Suppose the issue there for Apple is that you also have to get the IR and dot matrix through the display too.

Even though the standard face unlock can be fooled with a photo? I like finger print but the in screen ones just aren't consistent enough for me and the ones on the back can be awkward.

Question for you, if you had to choose between a notch or an off centre hole punch what would you choose?

teddygala reacted to NineEyeRon in Is faceID worth the notch?
Of course it is, after a few months of using a phone you forget about the notice, hole punch or even the old bezel design. Your brain adapts and in the end it doesn’t matter much.

It is ALWAYS those first few months that mess people up when changing as your brain still sees it as something different so doesn’t want to ignore it.
