It is probably a compatibility problem with the motherboard. I suggest you try installing the latest memory/device support drivers if you haven't already. If the problem persists, try buying new ram that is officially supported.

johnjohns111 reacted to Thermosman in LG G6 !! Anybody have one? and how is it?
I own one, it's a pretty good phone. The main gripes I have with it are:
    Snapdragon 821 instead of 825
    No stero speakers
Some backlight bleed when it's dark and using always on display
The camera is not bad, but can't compare with that of other flagship phones. The screen is perfect, 1440p is plenty, and it is bright enough. LG does put their preinstalled crap, but I guess that's just a fact of life now. The USB C can be annoying, because they are very rare to find if you don't have your own. The battery life will last you a day of moderate usage, but it certainly could be better. Qualcomm quick charge 2.0 is great, but requires the special charger.
Overall, it's a good phone, but I personally wouldn't choose it over other flagship phones.

johnjohns111 reacted to Misanthrope in Since we're a bunch of nerds here mostly do we have overlap with Tabletop gaming and D&D?
Yes I played on a table that was 3.5 then moved over to Pathfinder (seamless really) for a solid year and a half or so. 5th edition is...more fun but not in the way that you'd think. I'll do my best to explain:

With 3.5/Pathfinder part of the appeal of the game is that you get to do a lot of number crunching. Creating a character for the system is legit fund with tremendous amount of customization options: Classes each with their skills and feats, prestige classes, multi-classing, prestige classes that aim at multi-classing, so many supplements for character options. Most of the time our conversations were around what kind of characters we could come up with: Dancing fighters, flying psionic ant men, anything was possible. The problem was that it takes lots of dedication: it seriously took us up to 2 hours to resolve a single combat encounter sometimes up to 30 minutes just to get through a single round of combat. None of us were newbies at game mastering there was just so many options and actions and decisions to make that we took a long time just to declare actions, figure out how to resolve them, figure out damage and move on not before counters, additional swift actions and bonus actions, monster reactions, etc.

Not only that but all of the fun stuff we were talking about? It was for another good reason too: A run of the mill, standard Fighter or Barbarian most basic warriors would be helpless against mages and monsters on the higher levels. Magic got too damn powerfull.

Now we were happy to keep playing as we thought this was just how the game was not realizing that maybe we could simply things without turning the game into basically a tabletop videogame (This was still during the 4th edition days which none of us liked or bought into).

With 5th edition everything gets simplified but still feels fair: Your characters are far more manageable, character options and abilities are integrated into the classes reducing the endless hunt for feats (Feats still exists but are far more limited in scope and amount) and most actions are quickly resolved in a way that's far more elegant and fair. It's just realizing that you now have to readjust your way of thinking since power levels, everything is more simple: You don't need to compare special stats all of the time you just have 3 basic mechanics: Normal roll, advantage and disadvantages.

Spellcasters are also far more balanced: they get to actually do stuff at lower levels but they trade in a lot of the power: most lasting effects (good or bad) that are not direct damage require concentration and you can only concentrate on one effect, meaning we no longer deal with a Wizard that puts a sequencer with 3 different spell protections and immunizations plus the ones he keeps stacking every turn: you either become invisible or reduce/negate damage but you can't concentrate on both, etc.

This means that before we took 5 or 6 hours to get through a standard session with maybe 2 or 3 combat encounters whereas now you can get through all that in just 3 hours maybe less. You actually spend more time playing and less time crunching numbers, arguing rules, keeping track of spreadsheets with endless status effects, etc.

The game isn't simple but it's far more manageable and I am finding out I enjoy this far more since I like a balance between story, exploration and combat. Now you can do all of that on a single session instead of well, you run into a bunch of undead and we'll better get bathroom breaks and snacks in cause this will take hours to get through.

johnjohns111 reacted to ono in How can I stop trying to move over to PS4?
Play what you want to play on whatever you want to play it on. Who cares what others think as long as you're having fun.

I personally have all the modern consoles, save for the Xbox One X, as I already have an Xbox One S and figured it'd be better to put that cash on a GTX 1080, which I did. So for me now, if it is available on PC and supports controller, that's the version I get. Barring horrible port or DRM problems (e.g. Assassin's Creed Origin right now). Yeah, this renders the Xbox One S less useful, as I'd get the PC version now. But still good for 4K UHD BD playback and games via backwards compatibility (only for convenience since it can prevent me from having to dig out the 360 or original Xbox). PS4 Pro is the default for me for console only games. I do like like my Japanese games like Persona 5 and Nioh, though the latter is headed to PC in a few days. The Gust and Falcom JRPGs are regularly on PC too nowadays though, along with the upcoming Ni no Kuni II, so maybe I won't need a PS console if this trend keeps up. I'm not too big on Sony's first party games. And Nintendo, well I love their games, so I always buy into them

I've been enjoying the SNES Classic that I've been thinking of how to get back into PS2 gaming. I was just thinking of getting the network adapter and HDD for my fat PS2 since the lens is dying. It only can read CDs (blue discs) in the vertical position now. Modded PS2 to play backups of my games sounds like the way to keep this thing running without worrying about the lens. How tricky was it to accomplish this? I also see unofficial SATA adapters (not network on those, but doesn't matter at this point) to use modern drives. Not sure how tricky it is to set up the hard drive. It sounded like the modded software on mem card is easier to just buy a premodded one online.

Y520 has a weak battery life and entry level IPS panel (low sRGB). Keyboard is great but I heard that there are some QC issues with the keyboard. The new Omen 15 (2017) is well built but it's overpriced. However you found a great deal which is good. Battery life in that thing is average (not too bad, not too great), the rest of the it is pretty good (not excellent though due to some minor imperfections)
Yes it's one of the best budget gaming laptops I can say. Unlike the solid-built Dell 7567, the Y520 sacrifices battery life for its fairly low weight. Anyway it's better than Asus FX,GL series and MSI GV,GL,GP series in terms of overall build quality (build material, cooling system, display etc)

People so fixated on COMPETITIVE sides, and actually forget what it actually means.
The game is casual, it's type of game which easy to play hard to master.

The game mechanics doesn't define what games is competitive and what not.
It's like telling people CHESS is a competitive game, who play chess casually for wasting time

Any game can become competitive when someone think they are in competition with someone else to become better with it, even if it not designed to.

Eg: Tetris, people do speed run, time limit challenge, etc.

com·pet·i·tive kəmˈpedədiv/ adjective adjective: competitive 1. relating to or characterized by competition. "a competitive sport" synonyms: ruthless, aggressive, fierce; More Darwinian; informaldog-eat-dog, cutthroat "a highly competitive industry" having or displaying a strong desire to be more successful than others. "she had a competitive streak" synonyms: ambitious, zealous, keen, pushy, combative, aggressive "a competitive player" antonyms: apathetic 2. as good as or better than others of a comparable nature.

Strongly disagree, but if you feel that way, don't play.

In my opinion, your team is heavily punished for mistakes, even if you don't feel like you are personally punished for it.
If your healer is killed, it makes the rest of the team far more likely to be killed for the next 10-20 seconds.
If your tank is killed, the rest of your team is way more vulnerable for the next 10-20 seconds.
If your offence is killed, you're more likely to be over run until they respawn and get back into position.
All of these things make you more likely to lose a game.

On your Pharah and Hanzo (not sure why you think it's easy to aim as Hanzo, but I digress) comment, all the characters require a lot of skill to use effectively.
Sure aiming might be easier, but that really isn't the only aspect that's important in Overwatch.

Imo, they have the balance near perfect for competitive play.
