The first one was great and is probably dirt cheap atm. The second one I've only read horror stories about. More of the same, awful port and the character choice boils down to pessimist/genocide. Just what I've heard, but I still stand by the first game. Exploration is fun and rewarding, mechanically it has no glaring issues and it had a cool style. It's been a few years since I played it, might not hold up.

You should ignore this source in the future.

The first game is great, especially with all DLC. It has a Bioshock atmosphere and I dig that steampunk alternative universe. Have yet to buy and play the second.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

I bought the first one a couple years ago for like 10 bucks.  Played through the campaign once, liked the story, hated the gameplay -- not really a fan of stealth games...

 

Everyone else I know loved it though, and I hear the second one improves on the gameplay mechanics in every single way.

I picked up the 1st one and have played it, haven't beat it yet, but I enjoy it. It's not "open world" but it does give plenty of options or ways to complete objectives.
