Interesting, I would love to know a little more about what you’re doing with the machine.

This may help, it's the Toms Hardware websites hierarchy, always a good starting point.

How beautiful it is having to void your warranty and risk damaging your shiny new $1000 CPU in order to get decent temperatures. Thanks Intel, so magnanimous.

All seems to be in order here. Idle temps are a bit more tricky as you will never get it below room temp ... who knows, you might be sitting in a 50 deg room?

*MageTank does not know why kids love the taste of cinnamon toast crunch, nor can he provide the number of licks required to make it to the center of a tootsie pop. These are the only known limitations of his powers.

TL;DR A bunch of computer enthusiasts got bored and decided to whip up a competitor to Intel's EXTREME edition CPUs in their spare time. This is quite frankly hilarious given how badly it has discombobulated Intel.

Pample reacted to Clanscorpia in Age of Empires 4 confirmed! And 2 and 3 remakes
Microsoft has released a trailer for the next version of Age of Empires, Age of Empires 4.
From the trailer it looks like they will be combining all of the civilizations from all of the previous games instead of making a new game in the modern era. Little has been confirmed by Microsoft except that it will be a Windows 10 exclusive. There is no release date or any other information confirmed.

There is also plans of remakes for Age of Empires 2 and 3 in the wake of Age of Empires Definitive Edition.

Im personally extremely hyped for this as Age of Empires 2 and 3 were my childhood games and I still play them to this day. This is one game Im definitely pre-ordering

AMD has confirmed that they have been able to replicate the fault in house and they are working with people believed to be affected.

It has also been confirmed that the faults occurring with Epyc and Threadripper are NOT related to the CPU, instead it is a known software problem.

For my part I don't think it is sensationalist at all, far from it. My concern would simply be that I want to see proper competition back in the market and a healthy AMD is PART of how that will happen. Just look at Intel's response to ThreadRipper.

I have both Intel and AMD systems running and I'm happy with both, 1 is a server the other my desktop, I have a small bias towards AMD, but only because I feel Intel has been taking the piss for a long time. Yes AMD have perhaps not helped themselves, but none the less my point stands that Intel COULD have pushed CPU tech far more than it has in the last decade but has chosen not to and charged people for the privilege.

I think all people want is something like a single bug that AMD are likely to fix shortly not over hyped as a doom and gloom problem that will sink the platform.

I do completely agree that people need to not be so upset, focus on the facts and stick with the discussion. So, on that point I would like to point out here that it will be VERY interesting to see how AMD responds to this bug.

Pample reacted to PorkishPig in How do I disable auto updates for my games on steam?
Nope. In a lot of cases, Steam will not even let you run a game while it has updates available. The most you can do is change Steam's settings to only update when you launch the game, as seen below.

Doing this will allow you to play the games on older versions while in offline mode only, where it can't check for updates.

So I ask again how can this happen when SMT is disabled when the bug is with SMT?

Pample reacted to leadeater in [Debunked] BSD team discovered a new hardware issue with Ryzen
@zMeul Instead of marking my post funny you could actually try an answer my very simple question. It didn't need to be an argument at all, this issue is talking about SMT then you said it exists when SMT is disabled and I'd like to know how that is possible, not a hard question. Especially when the original source says the bug does not happen when the cpu-bound loop is on a different core than the core doing the IRETQ, the only way they can be run on the same core is with SMT.

Marking posts as funny is rather childish.

It isn't even teething problems with the new µArch, it's a barely-used operating system that is temperamental about hardware support to begin with that doesn't handle interrupts properly (the issue is reproduceable on Kabylake too).

How are we suprised at all of this ... it's @zMeul on his anti AMD propaganda war once more. "Oh look, a brand new arch has some teething problems, how AMD have screwed up again". Both AMD AND Intel have had, and will continue to have issues with new architectures when they are so radical.

Having had both Intel and AMD platforms, this is not something that worries me, nor should it anyone else (In my humble opinion). It's simple scaremongering to start telling people that there may be a full scale product recall on the horizon. Stop it and grow up.
