Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from RoseLuck462 in The Worst CPU Ever Made
build an intel setup. if you want something dualsocket there's TONS of Xeon systems with supermicro mobo's for next to nothing on ebay.
keep in mind to check the power connectors on those motherboards, since many are made for servers. you might also need some extra fans on things like the chipset heatsink, since again those boards are designed for servers where they get tons of airflow.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from Needfuldoer in Apple's new Mac Pro can't do THIS!
this video was a fail imo.
an XServe 3,1 under the hood is effectively a Mac Pro 3,1 in server form. i own a 3,1 Mac Pro, and there's a LOT more that it can do than y'all showed.
for a start, 10.11 is the latest supported macOS version but it'll run all the way up to the latest release with patchers. with an nvidia card you'd want the High Sierra patcher, to install that, since that's the latest macOS that runs nvidia cards.
i actually had a 1030 working in mine on High Sierra, so theoretically it'll take any 10-series card.
furthermore you can very easily boot and install Linux on 3,1 Mac's so you could have done that. all the hardware in my 3,1 Mac Pro works on Linux so i don't see why an XServe would be a problem.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from Elitist Douche Consoomer in You don’t need a new PC
you're a tech enthousiast. you're living in your bubble. most people who aren't into tech don't know the dangers of for example spam email. it takes 1 spam email that someone who isn't tech-literate opens to get an infected computer.
then, on the same network, if some idiot is running Atlas, a version of Windows thats potentially a year or more out of date, the virus could easily spread over the network and infect that computer. etc etc etc.

Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to CreedTT in Discord is only getting noise from my microphone while everything (Audacity, Windows Voice Recorder, FL Studio) else works
go in control panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording > make sure your selected mic is set to default and Discord is using this exact same mic
If so then right click on the mic and click properties
go to Listen tab, Listen to this device click Apply
Now you should be able to hear what it actually sounds like
go to the levels tab and decrease/Increase until it sounds normal
You could also add enhancements in the enhancements tab to make it sound better,
There is also the option to download a voicemeter and see if that can be used to fix the problem.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from Kilrah in Years of Hard Crashes with BIOs Resets
have you stress tested the system> i mean running cinebench and heaven benchmark simultaniously to see if it turns off?
it could be as simple as a psu that's too weak for the hardware. slamming the machine with a load should show that.
if it does turn off, run cinebench or heaven on their own, to see if it still turns off when only the gpu or only the cpu is under load. if that's not the case, it's likely your psu is too weak to run both the gpu and cpu under load like in a game.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from bezza... in Issues with AMD Fx 9590
what gpu do you have? the FX 9590 basically needs a nuclear reactor to power it, it's extremely power hungry. you could be overloading that psu.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from CommanderAlex in Should I NOT install some drivers?
it's great you've not had issues. depending on what kind of raid it is you can encounter them. i've had a motherboard with a hardware raid chip, without the driver the ports connected to the chip wouldn't work, even with drives in non-raid mode.
the point here is to aliviate such issues. a driver takes up so little space and resource that even if the device isn't used, it's worth installing to avoid stupid problems since it costs so little to have it installed.
-
Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from WallacEngineering in Should I NOT install some drivers?
i don't think you realize how drivers work. if you don't install them, Windows will just not have a clue on what to do with that hardware. even if it's dorment unused, that can cause problems since the OS has no idea what it even is, so it doesn't know it's sitting unused either.
you should ALWAYS install ALL drivers on a system, no matter if it's for hardware you're using or not.
for example, if you don't use your iGPU, if you have drivers and Windows knows it's there but unused, Windows can put the chip in a low power state. that reduces power consumption and heat output. without drivers, the chip will still be active and in a high power state, because Windows doesn't know how to tell it to go into a low power state.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from streetchurros in Does deleting stuffs off your SSD lowers its lifespan?
as far as i'm aware not really. SSD's usually have a max drive writes in the specifications you can look up for your SSD. you can then use a program like CrystalDiskInfo to see how much you've written to the drive.
example here's my OS drive:
and here's what Samsung says:
so with my almost 30 terabyte written i'm about a third and a bit towards the cap for guaranteed reliabilty.
in any case, you'll want to make backups of all your stuff always just in case, but this gives you a good indicator.

Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to porina in Does deleting stuffs off your SSD lowers its lifespan?
You can't delete stuff until you've written it there in the first place, so I see it as going together. Basically just look at the writes.

also if selling it is too much of a hassle to you, there's charities you can give it to, they'll pass it on to someone who cannot afford a computer.

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from Needfuldoer in You don’t need a new PC
why would i want to change Windows's sound and display server? my sound and display output works perfectly.
source? Windows can run basically all emulators and it's so backwards compatible you can run a lot of classics from the DOS/9x era on modern Windows.
you clearly have never met my dad. he manages to make a good computer lag with excel. he asked me to upgrade his pc with more ram once because he complained it slowed down if he opened too many excel documents while also having a browser open. his machine has a 4770 in it by the way, an 8 thread cpu.
i don't need to disable anything on my Windows 11 machine either. it runs fine totally stock on my 4670K with 16GB of ram. that's the point i was trying to make, Atlas is a dumb OS.
