It is used for work so no OC on that thing. I also have a gaming OC and I would give it the edge since the memory cooling is better but I wouldn't worry about the mem temps on the tuf either way.

You should post your questions on the 4090 owners club thread in overclock.net. They have members who have multiple overclocked 4090s so they'll probably be able to give you a better answer. You'll also find high power limit bios for the 4090 there.

The card has dual bios, and yes you can flash the bios for another one to be able to increase the power limit.

Best bios available atm is the Galax.

Beware that you either need to mod the 3way plug (not really reccomended) or upgrade to the 4way plug (or ATX 3.0 PSU with 12pin originally) to be able to pull more then 450W

Thanks for the warning, I do have the option to test the card at his house so I'm pretty sure he wouldn't scam me but... I'm starting to see some pretty good deals on pretty much everything these days, that's why I'm not quite sure to pull the trigger on this one

Thank you so much for your response. Right now a 3090 from asus goes for around 1400. In Europe prices are always far more expensive than in the U.S. or Canada. Probably tariffs and taxes. I saw a 3080ti from zotac for 1000 so i might also go for that one but the extra vram would be nice.
Thanks for your response. I am also hesitant with getting an AM4 CPU because it is the end of the line for that socket. with 1700 i have some upgrade paths down the line. And I think I will wait a bit for announcements to come and buy them then, but right now is a pretty good time to buy GPUs and CPUs in Germany.
    Thanks so much!
i had not considered the first point actually! thank you. I was thinking of getting one by EKWB as 280 AiOs are hard to come by weirdly enough.
I was actually thinking of leaving the top panel off as well and also to opt for the mesh kit as i really like that aesthetic.

It will be a bit cooler and a bit quicker.

I have an EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti that shares the same cooler as your card but if I bought your card I would have to add more cooling to the case. Its vram runs on the high 80s gaming.
I have the FTW3 Ultra version of the 3090 ti. It is 10c cooler on the GPU and 20c cooler on the vram.
It is 10 frames faster at 4k than my FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti and MSI 3090s

I have 2 MSI Gaming X Trios 3090s and a 3080 ti. All 3 are power starved if not run at stock. They are cooler than my EVGA FTW3s but they are less fun.
The power limit on the 3090 ti version is the same at Its max limit so basically a stock card as well.

My FTW3 Ultra 3090 ti did fine on a 1000 watt PSU using 480 watts with no issue but I would not want to use less. It is now on a 1300 watt PSU only because it was on sale for the same price as the 1000 watt version.

There are 3 issues with the 3090 ti that I know of.

One is that using HDMI it can exceed the bandwidth of most cables. So the HDMI 2.1 cables I used for the 3090s and 3080 ti failed with the 3090 ti.
It was not at 4k or 1440p but in 1080p testing at ultra on games like Far Cry 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn. The screen goes black. A new cable fixed it.

The second is that its driver setup is different that the 3090, 3080 ti, 3080.
When I first installed the 3090 ti on my 5900x rig that used a 3080 ti I did not update the drivers. I wanted a before and after to see the difference. Without a clean install the 3090 ti ran like a 2080 ti.
With the 3080, 3080 ti and 3080 you can swop them around with out updating drivers.

That can cause another problem and that is drive upgrades that benefit the 3090, 3080 ti may not with the 3090 ti.
For me it is issues with Sweet FX on older modded games like Skyrim LE. My 3090 can run Sweet FX but the 3090 ti can not. It could on the first driver I installed but stopped working on the second.

    The 3rd is coil whine.
My EVGAs have less coil whine than my MSIs.
Reading user reviews on the Gaming X Trio and Suprim is a bit troubling since the issue comes up all the time.
Two of my MSIs are mainly for productivity and they are quiet at that.

    Would I buy one.
    Yes.
Looking at it I would say in is a bit warmer than the EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3090 ti but that is silly cool so I am ok with that.
I would not replace my 3090 with it since I need at least one computer to run old modded games.

Do you have that kit? If so, what direction are your standoffs pointed? One side of the threads are longer than the other.

It looks like they want the long set of threads pointing up and towards the you when looking at the socket. If you've got them on backwards you probably can't tighten them enough.

Fair enough, last I checked where I'm at the MSI board is $250 and the Asus board is $350, at that price difference Asus really doesn't make sense. If it's only $10 just get whatever you think looks better at that point, they're both very solid motherboards.

The Asus is a hair better, but they're both pretty equal. I'd get the MSI since it's $100 cheaper ATM and that money would be better spent getting another kit to run dual rank or upgrading to Samsung B die memory instead

First off, you're comparing quite literally the best Z490 board for memory overclocking to the worst Z690 board for memory overclocking. I'd be very surprised if this did work, especially out of the box at XMP. Plus this would require that you get a good memory controller which is not a guarantee on Intel hardware.

Second, are you trying to get these speeds in Gear 1 or Gear 2? Gear 2 is where this does have a shot of happening, so make sure that's where you're trying to enable this.

Third, I'd be very surprised if you don't have options for VCCSA and VCCIO voltages on that board. It is a Gigabyte board so they will put them in weird spots (it's been a while since I've used an Intel Gigabyte board so I don't remember where in the BIOS they were), but they should be there.

There are several things that can do it.

Bad 24pin motherboard cable or PCIe cable.
It happened on my i9 10900k rig. Found out by regaling the cable.

Not enough PSU power to start the GPU. With my RTX 2080 tis I sometimes had to swatch off at the PSU and then on again to get the computers to start. They had 850 watt PSUs and with 1000 watt PSUs the issue was gone.
Since I only have 1000 & 1300 watt PSUs I have had no issues with my 3090s and 3090 ti.

Also when my i9 10900k overclocked and my FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti overclocked were together they used 833 watts from the wall. You are using more.

Super panda got a reaction from Middcore in Massive Hashrate drops om RTX 3090 GIGABYTR GAMING OC when mining
    Hi guys,

So I recently decided to mine on my rtx 3090 gigabyte gaming oc and the first week everything was fine and I had constantly a hashrate of 120 mh/s but gpu memory temp was getting quite hot (110 C) so yesterday I decided to put some thermaltape, heatsink and a 3000rpm fan on the backplate of the card and while that helped with the gpu memory temp (around 94-96 C now and gpu core around 42 C) it made my hashrate extremely unstable, like one minute I'm at 120 mh/s and next minute it drops all the way down to 35 mh/s. I know that thermal throtteling with rtx 3090 starts at 110 C and a few days ago i had a much more stable hashrate despite the higher memory temps. I'm aware that replacing thermal pads on the card can help a lot with gpu memory temps but i like to avoid that since I have nevet done something like this before and there is a chance of breaking your gpu + my warranty will be gone. Also yesterday after adding the heatsink and fan on the backplate I started getting some BSODS like this Machine_Check_Exception and have a hard time getting booting up the windows sometimes. So I'm not quite sure what's going on here ? My guess is that there is still some part of gpu overheating while mining and there isn't any sensor on it and it causes these weird hashrate drops ? If that's the case maybe changing the stock thermal pads on the card is my only option then ? But even then it still doesn't explain the machine check exception bsods I'm getting. Any advice/tips is much appriciated & Thanks !

    Some additional info:
I'm mining ethereum using T-rex miner and using ethermine.org for mining pool. I have tried other mining softwares and pools and same hashrate drop is happening. Also when the hashrate drop is happening I noticed my gpu core clock goes up a little and reaches 1400mhs even tho it was locked at 1200mhz and when the hashrate drop is gone the core clock goes back to 1200mhz

don't believe the ocs u see online, 5.2 easily doesn't exist, or is some kinda golden bin. 5.1 1.375v is the top bin on SL. The "easy" ocs are usually with an avx offset.

vccio 1.3v pll 1.15v or 1.2v, not sure about the system agent on z490, 1.5v sounds higher than i remember on other chipsets.

I think you have the same ram as i do, cl16 4000 tfaw 280 1.45v works for me (running 3866 1.4v everyday), not gonna get much faster than that and not worth upgrading, unless you are going for 32gb.

Also if your gpu pulls 300w with the cpu pulling 300w u might be pushing ur psu hard, so i'd dial the oc back a bit anyway.

I am sorry to hear it.
My i7 8700k was an under performer and it bugged the hell out of me.

In testing my i7 8700k, i7 8086k and a i9 9900k I learned that the big leap in performance was at 5ghz and not much if at all after that. I did not test at 5.3ghz because it is beyond my cooling solution.

What I recommend is to run some game benches at stock. 5ghz and 5.1 to see if there is much of a difference in frames.
It may not be worth overclocking at all if Thermal Velocity Boost is really a thing.
