G.Skill DDR4 Trident-Z Royal 2x8GB 4800Mhz

Hi guys,

A few weeks ago I saw this memory: https://www.megekko.nl/product/2046/1044929/DDR4-Geheugen/G-Skill-DDR4-Trident-Z-Royal-2x8GB-4800Mhz-F4-4800C18D-16GTRS-Geheugenmodule

Now my question is, how can someone with an intel cpu make sure to actually get this high speeds ? and how can you make sure it's stable ? Which motherboards from which brands are the best for this speeds ? If 4800mhz doesn't work, can you downclock the memory to let's say 4600mhz ?

Waiting for your response

Thanks !

Usually Intel cpu's have really good imc and these are I think are micron quality or b die so there should be no problem

asus "apex" series boards are good for handling that high speeds. but im pretty sure you cant run over 4000mhz with intel or AMD 100% stabile

I'm gonna buy i9 10900K very soon and about the motherboard not sure yet, I have heard Asus Z490 ROG MAXIMUS XII HERO (WI-FI) and MSI ACE MEG are pretty good but not sure which one to buy yet, still looking for the best motherboard that can handle those high speed rams. My budget is around 450-600 $ If u have any suggestions, please let me know :)

If you're set on running such high speed memory, get the Maximus XII Apex. Costs about the same as the Hero if I'm not mistaken but is more optimised for memory overclocking.

Sadly the Z490 Maximus XII Apex from Asus is not available here yet ;/ Any alternatives ? Or should I just wait for the Maximus XII apex to become available ?

Then the Hero will also work. It's just as high-end of a board, and you should still have great overclocking potential on it, both for the CPU and memory. Most if not all high-end Z490 boards are quite overbuilt, so they're really solid for overclocking, which can actually be a necessity, especially for the 10900K since it can draw a lot of current.

Keep in mind that 4800MHz is already quite a stretch, so it's not guaranteed that you'll be able to hit that, even with the Apex.

Nvm I just found the Apex Z490 in stock somewhere, I did a bit research myself and apparantly that motherboard is great for memory overclocking so I think I'm gonna go with Maximus Apex Z490, anyways thx for the help :)

PS. yeah 4800mhz might be a bit too much to ask but I hope 4600mhz should be doable with Apex ;D

Nice, no problem. I don't even want to think what the whole build's going to cost, just going by the board and memory haha.

Trial and error, you'll have to try it out for yourself. Who knows, you might get lucky and have it run with no hiccups.

High end memory clocking past say 4400mhz is generally done with extreme cooling. Give or take.

Its pretty rare to see memory overclocks that high on daily use.

Dont see it around here ever.....

actually its pretty normal

not on AMD ofc lol

their imc and interconnect cannot handle it

but intel's cpus can

their imc is really good ad maybe a vccio over clock you can easily achieve a 4800 oc

You say easily but we dont know the settings used.

Possible would be better wording maybe.

Looking at memory voltage of 1.55-1.65v likely Vccio Vccia both around 1.25v or so.....

Ive have had my sticks at 1.9v CL12 4000mhz. And it wasnt "easy" and wasnt stable.

i think vccio was at like 1.1 and dram voltage was at something like 1.45

i shouldnt have used the term easily my bad lol

Gah.

Now you got me all jacked up man. Intel rig is going on the bench again F it.

I'm only 258th place in the world DDR4 memory frequency at 4312mhz. Stupid IMC just don't want to submit 4400mhz for me. Blue screen, over and over restart memory training. Minor corruption.

I'll have to mess with installing Winders 7 all over again.....

And then.... seal the board fill the LN2 dewar and try again. Haven't benched extreme in a while, this gives me itches. 😅

Oh goodluck with that 😅, and I think with extremely good kit like in this link :https://www.gskill.com/product/165/299/1552457909/F4-4800C18D-16GTRSTrident-Z-RoyalDDR4-4800MHz-CL18-22-22-42-1.50V16GB-(2x8GB), good sillicon, good mobo and a bit of a luck you should be able to go past 4400Mhz. I don't have much experince myself but I'd love to get a 10900K @5.2Ghz with 16GB @4500Mhz+  stable for everyday use 😅 . I think going with Maximus Apex XII Z490 From Asus is a good choice for a better memory overclocking. Also saw this guy using 4600Mhz cl19 with 10900K :

Yea my 8700K isn't exactly the best. The memory kit is Grade B which is pretty decent. My board is plenty favorful, but not an Apex.....

5.2ghz on 14nm is pretty normal clocks with decent cooling for the last few generations now, so your expectations are in the ballpark at least.

Good video. thank you.
