Crunchy Dragon got a reaction from Commander_Dork in Minecraft shaders
This is probably the best budget option, although my 2070 Super struggles a bit to run standard Minecraft shaders at 60+ FPS consistently.

Even with shaders, I've always found Minecraft to be more CPU-heavy than anything else. SEUS PTGI is the only exception, I've never had shaders use 100% of my GPU before trying that one.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to RONOTHAN## in No D-RAM Settings in Bios? Any requirements that I am missing? Help
That's not uncommon for OEM motherboards, there can sometimes be XMP settings, but a lot of times there isn't (HP is pretty known for that).

If you've looked around in the BIOS and haven't found it, I'd assume that it's just not there. I will point out that ASUS does put XMP settings in a weird spot, at least on their consumer boards, so maybe look for a menu labeled something like "overclocking mode" and see if XMP settings are in there, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's just not present. OEM boards generally speaking are very locked down.

Crunchy Dragon got a reaction from Hi P in Do you think the RTX 5000 series will launch in 2024 or 2025? Is the RTX 4000 series that bad?
RTX 40-series isn't that bad on its own. The cards are legitimately good, they're just waaaay overpriced.
From what I remember, the 4070 and 4080 are the sweet spots, but I could be wrong. If someone reading this knows the actual models worth buying, do enlighten me 🙂

My take, as someone who recently upgraded from a GTX 1070 to a 2070 Super, is "if money isn't an issue, then buy 40-series if you want it. For us mortals, used 20 or 30-series will be much better value".

Graphics cards usually release on I want to say a 2-3 year cycle. We can hope for the next generation to be better, but we won't know until it happens.

The only ones that come to mind are Silverstone's DS380 and CS381. I know there are others, but I'd question how easy it would be to acquire any of them. That being said, the DS380 and CS381 are ridiculously expensive.

If hot-swap is more of a want than a need, a Node 304 or Node 804 are far more practical and affordable.

Node 304. No hotswap, but do you really need that? How often do you plan on swapping drives?

    Welcome to the forums.

Please describe your problem more clearly. What does "screen goes funny" mean? What does "restarts itself but it doesn't" mean? What exactly happens?

Is the light you mention a hard drive activity light on your case, or something else?

You don't mention what type of cooler you are using for the CPU. What is it?

Do you really mean that every time this happens you remove whatever cooler you have, take the CPU out of the motherboard socket, put it back in, and then reinstall the cooler?

Finally, in the future please make your thread titles more descriptive of the problem. Every week there's at least a dozen threads on these forums with titles that are just something like "help pls." If the title summarizes the nature of the problem, there is a better chance someone with relevant knowledge will notice it.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to Spotty in i want to build a pc for streaming i asked someone about the parts and they said that it was too weak for my needs
What are you planning on streaming? Gameplay? Or just a webcam?

The GT 1030 isn't really ideal for gaming and lacks NVENC support making it a poor choice for a streaming PC.
Those Armageddon power supplies are really bad, don't buy them.

Actually, no, computers can be MORE random than humans. Humans are actually kinda bad at randomness.

Yeah, ultimately I think my biggest gripe with AI is how it lacks the human element.

No computer can ever be truly random or spontaneous in the way the human mind is.

Crunchy Dragon reacted to rippy4500 in How can I tell what's eating up almost 16GB of ram? (Basically at idle) Seems like a lot?
That's a ton of junk you have running in the background, try getting rid of some of that. Also windows caches stuff in memory so thats probably part of it as well.

Edit: windows caching is probably the main reason actually.

Crunchy Dragon got a reaction from Dortokay in Memory Mixing with Soldered on RAM?
I've done it before. My old laptop had 8GB soldered and a slot, with support for up to 32GB total. I just ran to Micro Center, grabbed an 8GB Crucial Ballistix off the shelf, and plopped it in. Worked fine.

Memory mixing isn't as huge a deal as people make it out to be.
Any modern motherboard will automatically adjust the speeds so that all the RAM works properly anyway, usually by defaulting to the slowest supported speed across all DIMMs(this holds true for desktops as well).

Crunchy Dragon reacted to da na in Memory Mixing with Soldered on RAM?
Since the Core 2 Duo era, laptops haven't been all that picky with soldered on memory. I've never encountered an issue mixing capacity, speed, timings, etc with slot/soldered. Nearly any RAM that fits will work.
