The example I used was a typewriter vs a computer for making a pdf, not windows vs linux for making a pdf.
    A typewriter cannot make pdfs.

A typewriter vs a computer represents program A vs program B for making an exclusive file type, where program A works on linux and program B works on windows.

Clearly this example was too complex for you to understand

The point isn't that it's hard to switch to linux.
It's that you CAN'T switch because you are required to use industry standard software at university or at work.

Why do you think people use computers at work instead of typewriters...
If you tried using a typewriter you would get fired when your boss asks for a pdf.

Maybe you've never worked at a large company before or something?

What you need to understand is that you don't work alone, you work as part of a large team of people. Sometimes tens or hundreds, possibly more if it is an international corporation.
There are standards in place so that people can work on projects together.
This involves file types which are often very specific to a program.
For example sldprt and sldasm. Or psd. Or ppro. Or a bunch of other stuff.
Everything from circuit design to cnc programming.

You think you're going to convince an entire company to switch to an open source linux alternative because you don't want to use windows? lol

Mihle reacted to brwainer in Google Android devices fool most users in Brazil
Google (or any individual company) isn’t responsible for finding any/all timezone changes and implementing them - that is the job of the IANA - the same group in charge of all the public IP addresses. Google and other companies are responsible for implementing any tz (the official name of the IANA timezone database) updates.

tz release 2019b, which includes the Brazil change, was released July 2nd 2019: http://mm.icann.org/pipermail/tz-announce/2019-July/000056.html

The problem Google faces, compared to Apple or Microsoft, is that when they put the updated tz database into an Android update, the manufacturers and cell carriers have to follow suit and push that update out. Google doesn’t have any other way to update this, since the tz database is a system file with the related security protections.

For $350, that thing better be completely waterproof, 15,000 lumens, thick walled aluminum and maintain a solid 3 day continuous battery life. The $20 3 pack Duracell flashlights are 500 lumens with a steel core, and waterproof. I just don't think I could justify $350 on a flashlight, have a hard time trying to justify a mag-lite.

Apple products for the same specs pre-built are significantly more expensive. A lot of that money goes into machining the housings that prevents you from being able to change or fix shit on your own. The housings are also aluminum, which is a great heat conductor so their stuff tends to overheat as they don't seem to design for cooling, so your paying more for less performance with thermal throttling.
I haven't had any experience with the "genius" bar, but I'm also not about driving across town to have them fix some shit that I could do myself, not to mention the staggeringly vast amounts of reports of them being unsurprisingly useless. And it's been years as far as I know since they've actually fixed or replaced anything without forcing you to buy either an entirely new phone, or an entirely new motherboard. So... also not worth the cost.
As far as ads in the OS, I'm still on Win7, have no experience with Win10, but you can also just use Linux. Or Mac OS. Forced third party apps? Sometimes, but usually there's ways to remove them, especially if you do a fresh install. And while Apple might not have forced third party apps, they do have forced first party apps. I don't give a shit about iBooks, or News, or whatever but I can't get rid of them. Granted that was also an iPhone 4s I got from my buddy after he upgraded. Could've changed. Android allows me to disable and remove most of the pre-installed apps it has and allows me to customize it more to my liking.

Oh, and the built in slowdown of Apple products that's a proven fact and they lost a class action lawsuit for.

Branded clothes, cinema food/drink, luxury cars. Seriously, if you don't have millions of dollars, you shouldn't buy the newest luxury BMW, jusy get something that is still very² good from a couple of years ago for 15-25% off the full-price that is used for only about 10k miles

Mihle got a reaction from Blademaster91 in It sees you when you're sleeping, don't care if you're awake - Pixel 4 face unlock unlocks your phone regardless if the user is alert or alive
I dont do anything other than pick the phone up, I dont move my finger to activate it, not even subconsciously, it just happens to be the place where my finger naturally is when holding my phone.  With under screen one you would have to move your thumb to the right place after picking it up. I would never want fingerprint on the front of the phone.
I dont use the phone while it lays flat at all, never, that just seems uncomfortable to me or whatever the right word for it is. and can face unlock really detect on a 45* angle or whatever??
No, I dont have to move any fingers if its on the back of the phone, as my finger is already on it. I do need to just lift the finger and put it down on the same place tho but it doesnt matter to me. If you talk about as in paying in stores with phone, that isnt really available in my country yet anyway.... (just tap a normal card is tho)
I never said anything about other people, I have just said WHAT I PERSONALLY PREFER. If you think I did talk about other people than me, then you should really go back and read what I wrote because then its obvious that you didnt really read what I wrote....
Its just that it had absolute zero benefits that would effect me, and neither does fingerprint on the back have any negatives that affect me. I would never want fingerprint on the front of the phone.

Why cant phones just have fingerprint sensor on the back AND face unlock so you can choose yourselves what you want to use? No phone seem to do that.... (I know some have under screen and face, but not back of the phone and face)

Mihle reacted to Votivee in Are 1080p monitors still worth buying?
Well, it depends on what you would use the monitor for. If you do office work with no gaming or games that are not demanding then 4k would be the way to go. If you're a big gamer then 1440p with a high refresh rate is the sweet spot right now, although 1080p definitely is not dying anytime soon.

If you have to save up for a monitor, I'm going to guess you wouldn't have any money to upgrade your PC. If you can't drive 4k there isn't really a point to getting it IMO.

    1. Thats what mine does to. Normal behavior. My cards in my home rig do this to. They sometimes dip to a little bit lower usage. When you do smi exactly then it will show this But like 98% of the time its near 100% usage.
    2. or to exit every terminal program "Ctrl+C"
    3. Haven't tried K80 but don't think it will produce much. Usually a 2core high perf+2xP100 is the most effective option: I was not throttled by the CPU but made sure to disable CPU folding.
    4. I think we have some problems with IBM. I updated the Guide accordingly. Myself and a few others got banned. I think they detect what where up to and are not allowing this. Though I dont understand. Free credits are free credits and you should be allowed to calculate what ever you want.
    5. Yes but less than google. ON amazon not sure if there are GPUs available for free credit use.
    6. Yes delete the instance! Even when the instance is idling it will be the same cost. So simply delete it all together

You could only listen while charging the phone with wireless headphones, wireless isn't always better than a 3.5mm jack and the only reason for manufacturers to drop a standardized port other than marketing is to get people to spend more money on wireless headphones or dongles. Having to use a dongle will wear out the port faster, and if I put the phone in my pocket there's a chance the dongle bending could break it. And I care about battery life, more battery drain from BT headphones or a dongle just results in having to charge the phone more.

I have two P100 at Google and one P100 at IBM currently, the cherry one did run out this night. Only one account each, because I would need more than one card for more and not comfortable with using other people's

Usually do about 200-350k on my desktop but now:

Have gone up 100 LTT team all time rank soon.
IBM will run out on Thursday and Google will run out on Friday/Saturday if I have calculated correctly.
Will probably try to set up Oracle cloud one day too.

Cool idea. It will be interesting to see if these games are playable with their new look on older 10-series cards or even existing and upcoming AMD cards.  As much as they're obviously doing this to promote RTX, I would guess that in most cases you won't actually need the RTX hardware to be able to get playable frame rates (or at least, you shouldn't) since the games are geometrically so simple.  It's the same theory behind why ray tracing mods for Minecraft work on non-RTX cards.
