BlueLightning reacted to aisle9 in Intel Q6600 vs Q9650
Are you overclocking the Q6600? Because, IIRC, there's not a lot of difference between the two if the Q6600 is overclocked.
If you're in a locked BIOS, you can always do the tape mod to make the CPU run faster.

BlueLightning got a reaction from Velvet Revolver in Overclocking on linux mint
What is a good software to use for overclocking gpus and cpus on linux..?
-
BlueLightning reacted to QueenDemetria in Overclocking on linux mint
For CPU's just overclock in the bios/uEFI. If you're using an nVidia card then you can overclock in the nVidia X Server settings(enable performance level editing).

BlueLightning reacted to purpa turta in People still buy this? DDR1 @ 400MHz?
I got 8GB DDR2 for $70 US on Amazon
I had to get DDR2 because it's a lot cheaper than upgrading everything. I still need something better than my dual core

BlueLightning reacted to Clara in Steam
Running it on Fedora here...
Installing on Linux is pretty easy actually. There are a few ways to do it. You can go to terminal and type commands to install it like these:
Ubuntu
sudo apt-get install steam Fedora
sudo dnf install steam NOTE: If those don't work, then you have to add the repository that has it. "steam" was in RPM fusion's for me.
Additionally, you can download a deb file and just install it from that. Also Steam's site just lets you download what you need if you go to their site on Linux.
https://store.steampowered.com/about/
Just click the green button on there and you are good to go (Or if you are lazy).

BlueLightning reacted to mikat in Do keyboard PC's deserve another chance?
no, because the keyboard would be super high off the desk, your keyboard would become warm and it would be a pain to move your keyboard.
also: you'd have to make a keyboard that alot of people like and a case that matches it, for everyone to have the case that they want and the keyboard that they want you'd need <amount of keyboards on the market>*<amount of cases on the market>

BlueLightning reacted to Imakuni in 6700k with GTX 1080...
FE Trap is a joke with Nvidia cashin in 100 extra dollars over the dumb people that can't wait for the custom cooler variants. If you deliberately pay 100$ more to get a worse product, you are dumb and deserve to be fooled.
As I said, just wait for Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, etc. to release their custom coolers. Not only they'll perform better, they'll also sell for cheaper.

BlueLightning reacted to Imakuni in 6700k with GTX 1080...
Yes, the 6700k will keep up just fine. If anything, it'll perform even better.
Just wait a little bit for the board partner variations. Don't fall into the FE trap that Nvidia setup.

4.5GHz should be doable unless you get a dud of a 6700k. Higher than that will be up to Lady Luck.

BlueLightning reacted to DrJones in Ax860 or rm850i?
AX860i, it uses a digital signal rather than analog, higher efficiency class (platinum vs the rm gold) which also means a much better efficiency curve which you can find on the tech specs page of both products at corsair.com
If space is an issue, the AX860i is also shorter than the RMi PSU.
Both have relatively identical amperage outputs on each rail so that won't be a factor.
Basically if you want the best of the best, go with the AXi, that PSU specifically is the one I may go with for my own build. RMi works just as great, won't be as tight on efficiency, but is a great option for a smaller budget

BlueLightning reacted to DrJones in Ax860 or rm850i?
Oh my bad, thanks for the clarification. I wasn't aware Corsair still made them.
@BlueLightning As for custom cables mainframecustom.com does an amazing job but can be a little on the expensive side. If you want just plain red or black cables, you can find them just about anywhere with a simple search

BlueLightning reacted to handymanshandle in Ax860 or rm850i?
The RMi is perfectly fine. Honestly though you're safe doing either the AX or RMi, but I'd think the RMi is better.
Also you get the Corsair DigitalLink so you can monitor and control some aspects of the PSU from the OS.

The 980 Ti will display right at startup and will continue right into Windows 10, which will prompt you for a driver install or update as soon as it detects it. Someone gave you some garbage advise.
