Mobby Dick reacted to STRMfrmXMN in PSU Tier List [OLD]
Credit to @Starelementpokeand @Energycore for helping out with this long-awaited refresh of the old PSU tier list by Aniallation (who previously went several months without logging in), leaving the old list in need of help. This is simply an update of the list that was flawed in creation by the PCMR subreddit and in dire need of a refresh.
This list is subject to change as new PSUs come out on a regular basis and standards may change or issues with units on the list may develop. A list of PSUs awaiting a tier on this list is at the bottom.

Random IOPS. This is very important as you will rarely see the max read/write speed in real situations.

Mobby Dick reacted to DXMember in Why does CPU have 12V input?
Everything is on 12V except for USB, those are on 5V directly
we use higher voltage because then we can work with smaller currents and transfer the power more efficiently

Mobby Dick got a reaction from Technous285 in What is a DAC, how important is it to have one, and are they only used for for USB or 3.5mm plug speakers?
This might help a little

Mobby Dick reacted to minecraftyeet1 in Best DIY speaker designs?
Lucky for you, i know a do it yourself one.
1. Get some arts and craft scisorros and cut off a bit of your skin from your arm.
2. With that skin make a line.
3. Connect the line to your ear and then put it into your pc.
Done!

The site you're looking for when it comes to DIY audio kit would be, erm, http://www.diyaudio.com/
They have some pretty extensive gallery sections once you dig through the sub forums, and could be a good place to start looking for ideas, and also where you might source specific parts from. As a point of general interest, take a look at the potential 'end game' of this type of work - Mike Chin that runs the SPRC site (previously an Antec case designer) has produced the equivalent of some really high end kit in his time. The layered birch plinth that he built to rehouse a Lenco turntable makes my jaw drop every time (2nd link). Not necessarily relevant, but fascinating to see what some people sink their spare time in to.

Mobby Dick reacted to Herman Mcpootis in Cheap build under $700
i'd recommend this:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
CPU: Intel Core i5-6400 2.7GHz Quad-Core Processor ($179.99 @ SuperBiiz) will do better than the i3
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($53.88 @ OutletPC) don't pair an i3 with a z170 board, get an i5 and cheaper mobo instead.
Memory: Kingston FURY 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($35.88 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Avexir E100 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($54.99 @ NCIX US) store the OS here.
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($46.88 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon RX 480 8GB Video Card ($239.99 @ SuperBiiz) wait for stock if possible.
Case: Deepcool TESSERACT SW ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ SuperBiiz) pretty decent budget case.
Power Supply: Corsair CXM 450W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $701.59
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Mobby Dick got a reaction from NinjaJc01 in How much does my PC worth now?
Depends on where you are living. Here in germany I would try 450€. You can always go lower in price if nobody wants it.
EDIT: did some research on the cpu: you might even try 500€, that cpu is still very good

The 5820K will be a huge benefit in video editing and it will also enable you to play games while streaming and, generally, do some "hardcore" multitasking...

Mobby Dick reacted to Tosa in Why is my refresh rate at 60Hz when display is supposed to be a 75Hz monitor?
Not all cables have enough bandwidth to both run that hz and that resolution, I believe. If both the GPU and the monitor supports DisplayPort, then that'd be a safe bet.
