KraftDinner got a reaction from Skylake02 in For Anyone Trying to Learn About Networking...
So I found this post on Reddit by /u/RoweDent, he created a website that has the complete rundown of basic networking and networking concepts. It really covers everything a beginner in the networking world needs to read up on and puts it into simple terms. He's divided the concepts up into categories in the top navigation bar, I thought it would help any of you guys trying to get a grasp on networking so I'll link it here:

Yup, I agree, AES 256 would be near impossible to break with even a supercomputer, there are about 2^256 different possible keys when decrypting AES256

There is no market in building and selling PC's unless you're doing it for people you actually know. Places like Best Buy, NCIX and Memory Express completely dominate this market

Get your CompTIA A+ (Which is pretty useless but employers demand it) and your CompTIA Network+ which is very useful, land a starting IT job and work your way up the ladder

It puts files in the Quarantine because sometimes the anti-virus gets a false-positive and you might not want it deleting a file thats NOT infected, no?

correct. You can have the server do the checking or any external system check the configuration (doesn't require centralization), hence pull and push. With pull it is automated to check every x mins. With push you'd need to setup a script to push it every x mins.

    Desired State configuration.

Lets say you have a IIS role installed and running on server 1.
Lets say it is working fine.
Lets say intern comes in and fucks everything.
DSC says "hmmm, sysadmin wanted me to make sure I have IIS installed, and had the following sites published, and the files can be found over there *points to SAN\Cluster*"
Server restores server to operational state, and is now publishing said site.

Other things include making sure files, registy keys, (etc) exist or are absent.

See more then just installing roles. you can do a lot more, but that is basically it (and by basically i mean basic). Here is a cheatsheet http://blogs.technet.com/b/stefan_stranger/archive/2013/08/26/powershell-v4-desired-state-configuration-cheat-sheet.aspx

KraftDinner got a reaction from derrickd241 in Learning more python!!! Need some help
I use coursera to learn new languages, but considering you already know Python you probably wouldn't like it as they teach you from a beginner level. You should look for python meetups in your area, I know where I live there are groups that have python scripting nights and they just create cool stuff together, you can find those on meetups.com. Also try getting a rasberry pi and making something cool out of it using python, the best way to learn any language is to start projects and educate yourself along the way.

Generally for a home network you would just have the router connected to the switch via ethernet, this would perform any external routing or routing between internal subnets. Now if we take things a little further and say we would like to provide some redundancy we could implement something called the hot standby routing protocol (HSRP) which would allow us to connect multiple routers to the switch, except only one of those routers would be doing all the work. Now in the event that this one router fails, another router that is connected to the switch will take over and do all the routing this allows for 0 downtime.

Now in regards to increasing the throughput in the network we could configure our machines that are connected to the network to use LACP which is link aggregation control protocol, this allows us to combine multiple network interface cards to work as one and increase throughput.

To answer the last bit of your question, the placement of the router / modem would only matter in the situation where you're using wireless, wired connections would not suffer. But you can always configure and implement a few wireless access points to solve that problem.

    Most wifi extenders suck.

So it's probably limiting your speed just as much as the USB dongle you were using. I would suggest going with a PCIE wifi solution instead if you need your desktop on wifi.

Wouldn't you think that the card simply contained an ID number? Which when read would identify the account and how much cash is available on a central DB?

KraftDinner reacted to Trikein in Do I need both a modem and a wireless router for internet?
Ahh, no. Not if you are using correct terminology. A modem is a transparent device, a router is not. Most devices given by ISP are gateways, which are modem/router combos, but saying modems are routers is like saying switches are routers just because most routers come with switches inside. It just causes confusion IMO.

I have fiber to the side of my house, and I'm not paying a ridiculous amount of it. Yes some places are doing FTTN (Fiber to the node or fiber to the neighborhood) but there is also a lot of FTTP (fiber to the premises) or FTTH (fiber to the home). And FTTN really started about 10 years ago, even cable companies have a large amount of fiber in their local networks nowadays. much cheaper for them to have fiber to each neighborhood than a lot of coax.

    Hi.

You may have to resort to using a tool like a spudger or a screwdriver to push the connector in from the back because that's what I've had to do with those connectors. It should work fine.

Microsoft does not play nice with Linux, in order to have Linux and windows on the same system you must first wipe the entire drive, install windows, then install Ubuntu alongside windows. I highly suggest you do this because you can really mess up your MBR / disk by doing it the opposite way.

KraftDinner got a reaction from g12601 in Mini ITX or ATX
Mini ITX is much more portable as it is smaller and looks pretty nice if done right (IMO) but they tend to be more expensive for these reasons and they also lack features such as less PCI / PCIe Slots as well as lacking some I/O ports.

ATX builds are obviously much larger and they tend to be cheaper, they're not portable but at the same time they are much more spacious allowing them to offer many more ports and PCI / PCIe slots.
