i would honestly stop buying noctua if they went black like generic $0.02 fans.

i paid good money for them; i EXPECT them to not look like something that cost alot cheaper.

something to consider that I don't think anyone mentioned.

highly consider something with replaceable parts.  you DO NOT want to be stuck 3-4 weeks without a laptop because replacing an SSD requires sending it to a factory in taiwan because the SSD is soldered into the motherboard.

I knew this response would come, but if it would build a htpc right now it most likely would integrate a NAS.

For the simple reason, that the hardware in a dedicated NAS would just sit there and idle most of the time and it would kinda be a waste of money to have two quite similar builds.

thats only the case for their variable weight boards.  they have many more that are evenly weighted; this includes the all 45g type heaven.

alot of people are just babbling randomly without providing sources.

$300 corsair rgb?  what on earth did you get that number from?

did they say that each switch is customizable independently?

what amkes you think that corsair won't add all collr switches at once?  you don't have enough data to say that it's a trend that corsair is red-only-first.

if you need the board now, get the shine 3.  it's a great board.

otherwise, if matching is important to you, then wait for the corsair; you'll save alot of time and money from not buying a new board for every collr theme.

    lower profile is more ergonomic.

I think you guys are having trouble differentiating between 'low profile' and smaller layouts.

low profile means the height of the keyboard (perpendicular to table).  layout refers to the number and position of keys.  smaller layouts reduce the width and depth of the board, not the height.

I'm pretty sure its called a keyboard that's not plate mounted. You can do that on PCB mount keyboards, but plate mount feels so much better.

you can always make your board quieter by not bottoming out.  remember the key actuates at 2mm; the key bottoms out at 4mm

Sigh, when will people learn? There's no such thing as a "best" keyboard for gaming. It depends on what you like, what kind of switches and features you want/need. Just get whichever one has what you want/need and has decent reviews, so you don't get a shady product.

tbc got a reaction from DudeWazap in Best place to purchase Keycaps
are you picky about the font?

you're going to be looking for 'thin ABS' keycaps*.  That is the lowest quality of keycaps out there and not the grade of product I buy and am knowledgeable about.  If you go somewhere else asking for advice, let them know you're looking for 'painted translucent thin ABS' keycaps (fancy keyboard geek talk for backlit keycaps).

your BEST bet is to talk to CM and see if they're willing to send you a set (i'm surprised you didn't get a set of extra WASD keys in your box).  Otherwise, look for another CM keyboard owner and see if they will give you their extra WASD keys.  Alternatively,  go buy some from the qwerkeys site**.

*if you've never bought custom keycaps before and this is your first mechanical keyboard, then you're already used to this material.

** this is very unlikely to happen, but avoid keycaps labeled 'cherry'/dsa/dcs profile.  you DO want cherry mx keycaps, but you do NOT want 'cherry profile' keycaps; you're looking for OEM profile.

I think 16:9 is by far better once you hit displays above 1920x1080 in resolution. Dealing with black bars is irritating, and 1440p+ has enough vertical pixels that you don't feel the need to go 16:10.

Also I hate the name 16:10 because it's really 8:5.
