Anyone tried Topre?

James_AJ

long story short I'm looking to buy Topre Type Heaven for "da typing experience" but I read from a couple of reviews that it really wasn't good for gaming at all? I'm not sure how to feel about this, as I do game occasionally too besides writing up reports and transcript...

And please, I'd better not see "but buy Corsair it's so much better omg" "Cherry MX Brown FTW" (I tried Brown but I prefer Blues wayyy more)... switch from any cherry keys to the "electrocapacitive switch" is supposedly amazing, as told by every single review I read.

Can anyone tell me their experience with type heaven (or any topre board, to heck with it) and tell me if it's really bad for gaming?

I think it's meant for typing. Not sure though. Feel free to correct me :)

I used to have a topre until my siblings broke it. The topre typeheaven is amazing for typing but its not really for gaming. But this is my opinion so take it with a grain of salt

I have a Type Heaven and I use it for both typing and gaming....I can't fault it for gaming as I do not experience anything wrong with it. Tried a few games like UT3, BF3, Dead Space 2 to name but three. For those saying it is quite good for gaming, I am curious, care to expand on why it is not good for gaming?

Only a sample but is such a soft, sweet typing experience... Once you go back to Cherry MX from a Topre it feels stupid :P

I'll say this much.  I am a clicky switch lover.  unicomp buckling springs are the god switch, but I hate the size of the board, so I happily use and prefer blues as my daily.

i HATE linears.  I mean, I paid alot of money for my board, i WANT to be able to feel like something is working.  I will NEVER buy reds/blacks for myself.  the job of linears is to be smooth, unnoticed, and psychologically make the keyboard disappear.

that said, topres are a linear I can live with.  Mind you, they're not totally linear; they do have a slight tactile bump (nothing compared to a BS).  They do SMOOTH VERY well and quite a bit differently than reds do (and they do it in a way that i can tolerate).  when combined with the fact that they are quiet enough for work, they're worth considering.

basically:

you like cherry reds - 30g/45g topres are the godswitch for you

you like blues - if blues are too loud, then you should consider 55g topres (it IS heavier than a blue - so maybe 45g is okay too).  I say CONSIDER; there is still a high possibility that you will not like it.

end of the day for me, topres for work because they're quieter and better than browns.  blues for home because they're the most fun switch.

Topre are better for typing than any MX switch. But its ergonomic, meaning that different switches have different actuation force. So basically from WASD, key A requires less froce to actuate than the rest. Thats why its not optimal for gaming.

thats only the case for their variable weight boards.  they have many more that are evenly weighted; this includes the all 45g type heaven.

just look at above posts... I've no idea why it would be "bad" for gaming; I feel 45g is just perfecto for me but I guess when they're saying it's not as good for gaming, they're comparing the topre switches to the cherry switches.

The 55G Topre is where it's at, I have a RF 103UB-55G and it's the best Topre experience for me, 45G is great......55G is heaven. Honestly, still don't get why some say it isn't great for gaming, I've tried Cherry switches, Topre and BS, all are great in their way but Topre's simply way smoother and quieter compared to clicky Cherry switches and BS of course. I'm now back to Cherry keyboards for now, using my YOTS Cherry Blue, DS3 Cherry Green and my Keycool 87 Cherry Brown.

I've never used a Topre, but from what I read online it sounds like something I would like.  Quiet (but not mushy!) with some tactile feedback.

I would've bought a Topre switch keyboard if there was one available in a 75% form factor and was backlit.

I type ALOT more than I game, although it sounds like Topre are decent for gaming too.

I'm excited to try the CM Topre Quickfire TK.  Seems right up my alley.
