WereCat got a reaction from TatamiMatt in Dismal 1% lows
tRFC is extremely slow. But that does not matter as much if your tREFI is high enough. What is your tREFI right now? The 2T command rate is not really that big of a deal.

That said, you could probably claw back like 5% to 10% perf from memory tuning but if your 1% lows are in single digits it will not make that big of a difference.

Don't disable mitigations if you use this PC for anything other than gaming... Yes, they do have a performance hit on your system but they are negating a huge security flaw in Intel CPUs.

1.) There is no way to calculate a bottleneck for general use
2.) There will always be a bottleneck somewhere in the system no matter how much money you'll spend

WereCat reacted to Apple.fanboy in Please leave my walled garden alone
Hello Mr.Techtips and friends. I am here today to make an appeal. I know exactly how this post is going to be treated by people here but I want to say it anyways. Please stop advocating for Apple to make their accessories compatible with any hardware. Also please stop advocating for 3rd party app stores on iOS. I spent the first 31 years of my life using windows and android and hating on apple. I finally decided to learn why apple does what they do. Their philosophy and approach to user experience intrigued me. I bought an iphone, it was a great experience compared to my S20 Ultra. I bought an apple watch, also a great experience compared to my galaxy watch. I bought a m1 macbook, after learning how to navigate the os, it too was a great experience compared to windows. Homepods, home kit devices, apple tv. The way that all this stuff works together and creates a user experience where the hardware gets out of your way as much as possible is quite enjoyable. Apple’s dedication to user data privacy and security is another reason why I appreciate their philosophy. Nothing is un-hackable, but Apple does a much better job of protecting their customers than windows or android ever has. You think by advocating for cross platform compatibility of accessories you’re freeing people from being locked into Apple’s eco system, you’re not. You’re just ripping down the gate on our garden. We aren’t trapped in the garden we chose it, it’s really nice here. If people want to leave and go to android or windows they are free to do so. The only way that we are trapped is that there is not a better experience than apple. By advocating that Apple change their approach to accessories and 3rd party app stores you are asking them to compromise the security and experience their customers expect from apple. That could potentially lead to a loss in brand trust which is a big part of what makes apple, apple, customer trust. I’ll beat you to the punch and call myself a boot licker, apple fanboy, shill, tech illiterate, etc. If you aren’t a user of apple devices you have no say in how the company should operate. 🫡✌️

I mean a quality 500W unit will be sufficient for this and in theory a quality 400W would be as well but good luck finding a quality 400W for a reasonable price.
Generally it's best to get something like quality 750W for future upgrades. Yes, it costs more but it does not cost twice as much as a quality 500W so unless you're on a very tight budget I would recommend going with more.

Performance over Aesthetics every day for me.  ONLY go for looks if you can afford it.
You are spending 99.99% of the time looking at the monitor, RGB and fancy white parts wont give you more FPS.

If F@H requires a lot of VRAM then yea, 24GB is more than 10GB/12GB on 3080 and will significantly impact performance if you need more of it.

I have a 8 year old predator monitor that’s 1440p IPS panel with 4ms response time. I love the color. Not sure if 4ms is ridiculous by todays standards?

Or stay in a hole and then be blown away by how things have moved on to the point where you feel like you got a great deal no matter what😂

I wouldn’t have been able to believe I could get 4TB of M.2 storage with ~7,500mb/s read speeds for $335 6 years ago.

just bought all this in person. Good deal and happy pairing with a 16GB 4070ti?

WereCat got a reaction from Ottoman420 in Logitech G G502 HERO vs Razer Basilisk V3
I have G502 Proteus Spectrum and Razer Basillisk Ultimate.
They are almost identical in shape and the Basillisk V3 and G502 Hero have also almost identical shape.

The biggest difference or change I had to get used to when switching from G502 to Basillisk is the lack of the "lip" on the right side of the right mouse button where I used to rest my ring finger and I kept accidentally clicking the RMB on the Basillisk mouse until I got used to it.

Razer uses optical switches so you should never run into the double click issue the Logitech sometimes suffer from. I used my G502 for 6y and I never had the double click issue.

Another thing I miss from the G502 is the "infinity scroll" as I got so used to it that I still sometimes try to flick the scroll on my Basillisk mouse after almost 2y of just using the Razer mouse.
But Razer has adjustable scroll wheel resistance so that is awesome as well, IMO the merge of these 2 mouses would be the ultimate combo.

What I also love on the Basillisk is that you can change the thumb button for a lever and then it feels like a mouse click. I use it as a modifier to change functions on all the other buttons so I use it almost all the time too and it feels so much better to use that the button on the G502.

Then it comes down to software. Personally, I absolutely hate both the Logitech and Razer SW so after setting up my mouse I just saved the profile on the mouse memory and uninstalled the software.
If you decide to do this then with Razer you also need to run script to block it from the mouse annoying you with popups to install it because Razer in their infinite wisdom made their peripherals in such way that the moment you plug them in they will try to force you to install the SW on Windows.

Posting this in CPUs as that was the main thing I am exitedabout here. Since I got the platform alone for way less than MSRP, I am counting everything else as gravy. My Partner is thrilled with the deal too as the case, monitor (1440p 165hz IPS) and 3060Ti all went into her setup along with her existing i5 10400f. The juicy platform has already been moved to my PC along with a 6700 XT I grabbed for $230 around a year ago. Oh and BTW, I already have an NHD-15 on order and will only be using the hyper 212 for a few days while I wait on that. I gotta say it’s way faster than the i7 4770 I upgraded from, but I guess that is to be expected when you jump over a decade in CPU performance. Cinnebench R23 took minutes per render on my old CPU and now it takes seconds. I think I might have used up all my luck for this year, but my birthday was the other day and let me tell you, it was a good one because of this deal.

In new games your CPU is likely holding back even your 1080ti right now so CPU upgrade will be necessary.
I run The Last of Us Part 1 at Ultra at 1440p without any upscaling at 70-80FPS with my 6800XT so anything in that performance tier will do nicely. So something like 4070 Super or better if you want NVIDIA.
The 3090 makes no sense unless you need 24GB VRAM.

DO NOT buy a 3090. the 3080Ti outperforms it in most games due to the rear mounted memory chips.
As for is it time to replace it? Yes. They are approaching end of life. I've had two die with code 43

TJmax is 110°C so you're still within the margin.
That said its on the higher side but at the same time it's not that bad.

My 6800 XT deviated by almost 40°C from the GPU Temp to TJmax before I fixed it with washer mod and PTM 7950.
