Dismal 1% lows

I have a 8700k running with a 3080. Any idea why my 1% lows are so bad? Surely, it can't be the CPU.

probably an anomoly.  Can you repeat?

 

"Surely, it can't be the CPU"  Oh but it can.  It's only 6.5 years old.  Bump it up to 5HZ all core, it'll help a smidge.

I have run these test multiple times on multiple games and result is the same. I don't face any severe issues as such while playing but am worried because live gameplay 1% lows are also in single digits.

It's probably just a spike do to a frame or two in a bad part of the test.  That CPU can handle Cyberpunk decently, my kid payed on his 9900K which isn't too unsimilar.

 

I'd chalk it up to a glitch and just play the game.  Unless you run into major stuttering during gameplay a lot?

CPU is old, put simply. You can see its working hard.  What's your memory situation like? Dual channel? (as in, in the correct slots for dual channel operation, not just two sticks)

Yes, dual channel - 16gb x 2 - 3200mhz

InSpectre to disable the Spectre and Meltdown mitigations.

 

Disable the MultiPlane Overlay MPO.

 

If that doesn't help, time to upgrade the platform.

 

Consider the 8700K just a Ryzen 5 3600 or 5500. Low end 6 cores 12 threads. Not for a mid-range card like the 3080.

What type of 3080 is it? It looks lightly factory OC'd

 

Also slots 2 and 4 for dual channel?

 

Storage?

 

You could also OC cpu slightly as other have mentioned

XMP is enabled. hwinfo shows half the speed, RAM running at 3200mhz

2T command rate, is it in slots 2 and 4? If so try turning that to 1T, wont change the world but should net some performance boost

tRFC is extremely slow. But that does not matter as much if your tREFI is high enough. What is your tREFI right now? The 2T command rate is not really that big of a deal.

 

That said, you could probably claw back like 5% to 10% perf from memory tuning but if your 1% lows are in single digits it will not make that big of a difference.

Don't disable mitigations if you use this PC for anything other than gaming... Yes, they do have a performance hit on your system but they are negating a huge security flaw in Intel CPUs.

That board has a drop down for OCing the CPU.  Do it now, to 5.0GHz.

Tried CPU OC a few times. Only stable at 4.7 ghz

Flaws that are both man-in-the-middle attacks. Almost no risk if you don't let an attacker access your machine.

update your platform to something semi modern (like am4) already
