I'd go for a Ryzen 5 1600AF which is essentially a 2600 architecturally, just cheaper.
You gotta make sure the motherboard is updated to the newest bios to support 1st gen. That said, I believe that motherboard does ship with it now.

As for power supply, I'm not a fan of Corsair.
I prefer something solid like Seasonic, and if you're going with such wattage (550W), perhaps get a more efficient or higher watt-rated unit for upgradability.

Ram is important with Ryzen, spending a bit more for 3200Mhz would increase performance a bit if you go for a 1600AF.

Are you sure you want to have just a SATA based M.2 SSD?
I feel like a 970 EVO Plus would get you so much more performance for a tad more money.

Can you put a camera in the server room so you can record what happens when the ghetto mounted watercooled server leaks and destroys the $20,000 Petabyte storage server?

wraptor got a reaction from trzasku in Is shift+delete better than CCleaner?
SHIFT+Delete permanently removes the file from the drive, and by that I mean it flags that part of the drive as free space so other programs can overwrite that space.
Normal delete will just replace that current file to your Trashcan for you to chose wheter you want to keep it or not.
CCleaner essentially does the same thing as SHIFT+Delete would

Corsair H100i V2 is around €120~, has a RGB color LED and you can (optionally) buy a seperate red covers to replace the grey cover plates on the pump and radiator.

however, the matter of "dont ask why i want to know" does worry me... should probably note that the use of link redirection services on this forum is a huge black flag, so dont use it here. (it's no longer in the new community standards, but still, dont )

I would recommend malwarebytes. There is a free version, but the paid version is $30, and it lasts forever. The $30 version includes real-time malware protection, along with scans. I've had nothing but crap with Norton.

Well, I'm sorry for comming in late...

I don't use any anti-virus atm, it's not even required at all if you take care of whatever you do on the internet.
To prevent Microsoft from 'spying' (Which you agreed on by installing the OS) use Spybot Anti-Beacon.
To prevent virusses simply use Windows Defender (It's not possible to disable it permanently, only temporary), it's kinda enough (for me at least).
Just know which site you're visiting and do not download stuff you don't know are safe (Or use a virtual machine in case you really need but don't trust).
Also run ADWCleaner and MalwareBytes every x days to make sure your PC isn't affected.

Also check your firewall for vulnerabilities like ports being allowed without the need for it to be.

If you still prefer to use a Anti-Virus then try Norton... Kidding, nobody likes Norton :Þ
I know people who use Avast, never seen any virus on there.

wraptor reacted to 79wjd in lower framerates + freesync versus higher framerates
Well, I would go with a 480 over a 980 at the same price as the 480 will more than likely outperform the 980 over time (especially in DX12) titles. So....my vote goes for the 480/1060.

Also, from what I've heard lower, but variable, refresh rates is better than higher refresh rates (assuming the two will be somewhat close to eachother -- which they will since the 980 isn't THAT much faster than a 480).

Try using a RAM test with only 1 RAM stick.
If it succeeds add another one and so on.
Maybe one stick is dead, if so try sending it back for a new one.

I think the only problem you will have is keyboard and mouse. Hopefully that motherboard has two different USB controllers that you can pass through to the VMs allowing you to actually be directly connected to the computer like normal, but two people.

Also even if you were going to use Windows Hyper-V also supports dynamic resource allocation and core sharing, just a case of people not knowing enough about virtualization .

wraptor reacted to Jarsky in Crazy Idea for Virtualized Gaming
It's an 8 thread CPU. With VM's you assign threads.
You can also *overprovision* the CPU and assign 4 threads per VM, as the ESXi host essentially requires minimal CPU resource and it doesn't have dedicated threads.
As for Hyper-V if you wanted that, you will have to run Hyper-V Server 2016 as no previous iterations support PCIe passthrough (for GPU)

North bridge was for connecting memory and PCI to the CPU. That's been moved onto the CPU as an IMC/MMU, and there is no Northbridge anymore.
You're thinking of the south bridge which was for peripheral connections like SATA, USB, Audio, etc...
But yeah, the function for USB still sits on the South Bridge, but theres more than 1 USB controller on the chip - especially if you have USB2.0, USB3.0 & USB3.1 - each require a different controller.
