DDR2 4GB ram Compatibility

Hi to all, I'm new here and I'm humbly asking for help.

First of all, I have a older PC and I recently bought 4x4GB of DDR2 ram (Samsung 4GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400U-666-12-E3 /// M378T5263AZ3-CF7).

I've got ASUS P5Q motherboard and acording to QVL this specific ram is compatible with my motherboard.

But no matter what I do, I can't boot into Windows.

BIOS can see 16GB of ram but when Windows is "loading/booting" it shows me "random" BSODs......every boot different BSOD.

Also I've tried MemTest and test loooks like this (always stops and beeps on 23%), different modules, different ram slots.

I've tried those rams on AMD mobos.......they are all working just fine.

I heard that coffee's good for my sex life.

It isn't.

It kept me awake through the whole damn thing!

I actually had to participate.

Try using a RAM test with only 1 RAM stick.
If it succeeds add another one and so on.
Maybe one stick is dead, if so try sending it back for a new one.

Thank you for your answer.

Take a look at the pcture of a MemTest. I've tested all four (one by one) on different slots.

If one of them is dead (they are all brand new) why every MemTest stops at 23% with some sort of a BEEP???

P.S. Btw, I have 4x2GB Samsung ram, very similar to those of 4GB.

And they are all working fine, even in MemTest.

Actually I'm confused with MemTest. What is Samsung Zhidian btw?

Did you enable that feature to allow for more than 4GB of memory?
I'm not shure if you need to do so, or if the bios has that feature.

Feature is called (I guess) Memory Remap? It's enabled.

Right now, I have 8GB (4x 2GB) and it works perfectly.

Do you have a 32bit copy of Windows. Computers that have DDR2 ram in them usually came with 32bit cuz they didn't need to put as much memory in the computer as they do today. 32bit does not support 4gb+ of ram so make sure you have a 64bit copy

Dude, I can't boot into Windows and no, I don't have x86/32bit Windows (I have x64 Windws 10).

As I've said, BIOS CAN SEE 16GB.

It's probably the matter of OC the memory maybe in which topic I'm completely useless.

OK, I've raised FSB of CPU to 400 to make it work on 3.4GHz without additional cooling or adjusting the voltage and temps are like......35c.

It's Core 2 Quad Q9550.

Well occasionally when you change your hardware Windows doesn't like it. You may just have a corrupt copy of Windows. My recommendation would be to grab an old hard drive if you have one and try to install a copy onto there (Don't worry about the key. You get 30 days for free legally). If you don't have a hard drive you can use a USB flash drive but it doesn't all ways work sometimes. This way if it boots into this copy of windows you know its not faulty hardware and if you really don't want to use Windows you could try a Linux based OS. However if it was faulty hardware the computer generally in most situations doesn't post at all and since you were able to run a memtest like the one above means its posted successfully in the during the BIOS booting stage. Imo it looks to just be a Windows error more than anything.

Oh and if you do have any overclocks I just saw from one of your posts get rid of them. They are usually the cause of a lot of system errors

You mean Windows don't like large amounts of ram???

Is that even possible?

Well I don't have a spare HDD, Ive got SSD and 2x HDD but I can always SPLIT HDD on more partitions.

I kinda hate Linux.....I'm not a Windows "geek" but....I simply don't like Linux based OS...distros....and whatever.

I will try that BUT when I get from work....

I OCed just for testing something....CPU is not overclocked all the time. Just testing.

Thank you again.....I'll try that tonight.....since now is 13.30PM for me. Bye!

No I mean that sometimes on the rare occasion Windows may not like that sudden change of hardware. Usually its fine but somehow rarely it can go corrupt. For all you know just 1 program may not have shut down properly and corrupted the OS.

I am not saying to switch to Linux but to see if Linux boots up successfully then you will know if its a OS problem or a hardware problem. Because since Windows is having the trouble booting and what you said about the BIOS working successfully is true then it sounds like a a copy of that Windows is damaged and not the hardware. Even if you just run a live copy of Ubuntu on a USB and see how much ram it registers and if you crash at any time in just general use of the OS.

Is it high or low density RAM?

I cant seem to find the maximum amount of ram your CPU supports but there is a chance that it might not support 16GB

The chipset can support 16GB of high density DDR2 (the CPU doesn't have an IMC), with low density RAM support being hit and miss if you don't own/use an AMD motherboard with it.

Maybe its that your mobo doesn't support 4GB in one slot, what MHZ is your RAM?

Well I can try to run Ubuntu Live disc/usb tonight. Yes, BIOS and that first "post" screen detects 16GB of ram in dual chanel.

Mobo supports 16GB. You can check on Asus website.

Increase the northbridge voltage to 1.35

The 775 memory controllers were not designed for 2gbit density ICs so I am not at all surprised it isn't working very well, but works fine on AMD.

Well everything in BIOS is set on Auto. Is there any advanced options which require additional attention? Except nb voltage.

There are multiple OC functions there. When I turn voltage on NB after 1.30 it turn yellow.

What is the meaning of that?

It's just to say it's getting on the 'higher side' of things.

It's fine for 1.4V all day long but give 1.3 a go first

Interesting. I'll try that when I get home. That would be like in half an hour or little more...

No touching of latencies or anything?

Overheating might be a problem on NB? Yes, NO?

Any additional features should be Disabled/Enabled?
