This is certainly concerning, but as you said it needs proper investigation before people start throwing blame and panicking.

Definitely not what AMD needs right now though. They've only just managed to get rid of their reputation of having terrible GPU drivers - and I'm not sure how much of that is because Intel's are just so much worse. The last thing they need is a new reputation that their GPUs aren't reliable and get bricked with driver updates.

When it rains it pours I guess. Stuff like this is why I don't even consider buying Radeon unless they're 30-40% cheaper than the equivalent Nvidia card. This is 100% anecdotal with a tiny sample size, but every AMD card I've had has died. I've had an HD 7970, R9 270, RX Fury, and they all died within 1-2 years of the warranty ending. I have GTX 900 and 1000 cards that I've given out to younger people in my family for their first builds and literally all of them are still working.

Cant even remember the last time Nvidia pushed out a driver that killed cards, must've been the GTX 400 series or older.. But yeah this might not be driver related, it might not even be AMD's fault. We need more information and investigations by Buildzoid, Gamers Nexus, Igor, Derbauer, etc.

tfw the unencrypted .txt document on my desktop full of my passwords is more secure than a million dollar "secure your passwords" company lol

I've always felt that password managers are partial snake oil tbh, just like VPNs. Both are coincidentally marketed to and bought by the same crowd.

Y'all don't realize that smuggling is rarely about "getting things into the country" and more about "getting things across the border without paying the import duties"

Go watch "Border Security" episodes with people from Asia trying to smuggle in things (usually counterfeit items, or failure to state they are bringing in anything valued over $10,000.) Like clockwork, you'll see someone try to smuggle in a suitcase full of (what I'm sure is counterfeit) merchandise with the tags still on it, and the border security person tells them they either have to pay the taxes on it, or destroy it in front of them.

Usually every case of electronics smuggling is going to be either "trying to avoid paying import taxes" or "trying to smuggle counterfeit items". Drug imports are actually illegal in nearly every country, even if the drug is legal in the country. Same with weapons. You go straight to prison if you try to import those. But if you try dodge taxes, that's usually not a prison sentence, that's a confiscation and a fine.

Even today, if you order things from Asia, into Canada, you're often paying around 30% in import duties. I imagine the issue is the same for HK/Mainland China and Macau/China.  Both have no import taxes except on vehicles. Import into China has a 17% VAT.

Not every "smuggle" story is about the product being illegal, just people trying to dodge taxes.

It's not as bad as you think. I just wall mounted mine and the center of the display is on my eye level. This is how it looks in my setup. 42" is big, but very useable. I have some hobbyist productivity tasks now and then and so far it's been great working on such a big and high resolution sceen. (For comparison the screen on the right is 24")

I really don't know where you pull this from, it's straight out wrong.

Newegg has literally over 1300 27" monitors in their store:
    https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100160979 600030620&PageSize=96
It's as mainstream market as it gets. The cheapest 1440p ones can be had for under 200$, and 240$ currently gets you even a 1440p 144Hz panel, for 10$ more the Samsung G5 Odyssey. That's also not really a surprise as 27" is sort of a perfect middle ground between 24" (too small) and 32" (too large).

Demonking reacted to Blademaster91 in NAVI31 won’t be using the RTX 4090’s melting power connector!
Good, the 12VHPWR is a flawed connector and it definitely needs more testing, and revised to be better attached to the GPU so it can't flex and short out.
Also blaming people for not using the connector carefully is a weird excuse, it would require not bending the cable at all 35mm from the connector, meaning it wouldn't work in a lot of cases, and can't be bent horizontally so you wouldn't be able to manage the cable either.
