Exeon got a reaction from GreatnessRD in Advice 6900 XT vs 3080 MSRP
    Solid advice

DLSS and RTX do matter to me, but not in a sense where I'd pay 200-300€ more just for a setting that at the current rate can pop up now and then.
The only game I'm planning to play where it matters is metro exodus.

I called the retailer today and they pretty much straight up told me I'm not getting my 3080.
Basically they aren't recieving any Asus Tuf 3080's non OC cards anymore and haven't for a while, day 1 orders haven't been filled yet, the only reason I'm moving up the queue is because cancellations.
They have gone ahead and asked Asus if they plan to actually make non OC versions or if they plan to just discontinue them but they haven't made any official statements.

I bought the 6900 XT just now, it's a little over MSRP at 1075€ (MSRP is like 1015€) but it was still sealed, the MSRP one was used so rather pay the little bit extra over a used card.
Never bought an AMD product in my life, so this gives them a good chance, quite happy about FreeSync and FSR being available to all that I do believe they deserve it.

    Thanks for the advice all.

I think Ray tracing is cool as a concept, and games like control make it work really well paired with DLSS.

Although I do think it's additional value on the card I don't think it's worth paying a lot more for, not at this point.
Most games with RTX will bring most cards to its knees, I'm not into losing 40 frames for fancy lighting.

Exeon got a reaction from LmnSour in 6900 XT Heavy Coil whine under load
I actually had this issue when I bought my 980ti, I could hear electrical interference on my headphones(with a 3.5mm jack)

I fixed this by buying a DAC.

I might try the grommet thing out, can't lose much beyond a couple of bucks and 5m of my time

The 6900 XT is a much better card if you don't care about ray tracing or Dlss.
So I'd take that trade any day provided you can trust it.

Exeon got a reaction from OCNewbee in 6800xt for 3070 trade. What do u think?
Keep the 6800xt it's far better than the 3070 except in ray tracing.

Trading it for a 3080 would be a fair trade, if you don't want the ray tracing and the extra vram matter to you the 6800 xt is better.

I'd like ray tracing in my card, but not if it came at a cost of non ray tracing performance

And even if you could get ready for massive waiting queues.
Another reason retailers can ask these prices is because they have them in stock.

I ordered the 3080 at msrp back in September, my place in the queue has gone from 300 to 200 at the retailer where I brought mine.

At this rate I'll get my card this time next year.

But beats paying 2000$ for it

    16GB ddr4 ram 3000mhz
    GTX 980ti (3080 pending forever...)
    Asus strix z390 mobo
    Evga G2 supernova 850w psu
    Noctua NH-D15 cooler chromax edition.
As far as the "visuals" go:
Asus gt501 TUF pc case (white edition)
    Phanteks neon Led strips
Artic bionix p14 fans with phanteks digital halos for the lights.
Lastly the cables are a set of cablemod pro's

    As far as peripherals go:
LG34 gk950-f ultrawide monitor (got a very sweet deal on amazon warehouse)
    Logitech g600 mmo mouse
    Corsair k95 keyboard.
    A blue yeti microphone.
A shiit audio stack magni/modi (yes that's the name of the brand)
A hifiman 4xx planar magnetic headphones.
And lastly though not visible on the pictures I got a grey/white steelcase gesture (recently dumped my "gaming" chair)

I've contemplated upgrading my cpu but gaming is the only thing I do, so I'm waiting for a "jump" in performance

She would get the 9600k, I would get the 9900k, her i3 8300 would be sold.

I'm using a Asus Strix Z390-E motherboard I believe, not the highest end motherboard but I don't think it'll be an issue.

My CPU cooler is a noctua NH-D15 so I can't really improve it unless I go water, which I'm not willing to do.

    I'm using an old 980ti, and I'm still waiting on a 3080.

The only thing in my pc that could do with improving at the moment is the CPU and maybe the RAM, I'm using 16GB of DDR4 @3000mhz
The memory is at least 5-6 years old, from around the time DDR4 came out I believe(I recall it being +200€).

This basically confirms what I already thought.
Depending on the price of the 3080ti I might cancel my order of the 3080, but even if the msrp is reasonable the retail prices won't be.

Exeon got a reaction from SAVE-12-HK in How inflated will be IF rtx3060ti is $400 msrp?
Depends on the country and the moment.
Where I live the 3080 was on launch around MSRP but has gone up to 850€
The 3070 was never even close to MSRP and was around 650€ with some models going to 3080 MSRP
The 6800 XT is currently at 999€, which is the most absurd one yet.

I expect the 3060 to be a tad more than the 3070 MSRP.

The real question is, will these prices ever return to MSRP? They never did for the 2080TI

I can't say I expected much for 2020, but I feel like black friday has been terrible for any products I've been looking out for.
Maybe there will be something more for cyber monday.

But many sites don't even offer any discount this time around, or some pretend they do.

Anyone else facing the same thing?

Exeon got a reaction from MrDBD in 3070 vs 3080
For 4K I'd go with the 3080 period.
If you don't mind AMD i'd go with the 6800 XT if the price is right for 4K.
Benchmarks are slightly poorer, I still believe 10GB's is not enough for 4K in 2 years from now, 1440p should be fine.
DLSS implementations might throw this out, but there will always be games that won't have it

Wow, it seems like we got exactly the same build.
I also got a 6700K OC'd at 4.5Ghz and a EVGA 980TI, bought them near launch, and I recently switched to a  3440x1440 setup as well

I currently have the 9600K as my motherboard broke down a year or so ago and decided to replace the CPU as well.
The 980TI doesn't handle 2,5K well, I understand your pain, I feel like the card is dying since I swapped monitors.

As far as recomendations go, I'm in your situation and I wouldn't wait for more upcoming releases.
Sure there might be a "fancy" 3080TI coming "at some point" but who knows when you can actually buy and get one.

You could look to get that 2070s for 300$ if you can't wait, but otherwise I'd just buy whatever comes in stock first, rather than waiting for newer stuff to release.
There will always be something newer around the corner

About every CPU will be bottlenecked at 1080p with the 3080.
For 1080p you are better off with something like the 3070 or the 6800.

It might be worth it if you plan to upgrade to 1440p like you said, but the "when" is important here, what's the point if you are waiting a long time to upgrade?

Exeon got a reaction from BTGbullseye in How relevant is AMD 16GB VRAM for 4h gaming?
10GB's is more than enough for 1080P or 1440p.
You can always find an unoptimized game to make a case, however in 99% of the games you barely get to 8GB's, so 2GB's of "buffer" should be fine for some years.

4K is a different story, right now 10GB's is enough, however there are titles out there right now which use more on 4K.
I wouldn't buy the 3080 for 4K unless you are fine with upgrading next generation.

The AMD lineup will most likely last longer for 4K
