Nvidia RTX 3070 vs AMD 6900 XT

I've been using a Nvidia RTX 3070 for the past several months and now have the opportunity to trade it for an AMD 6900 XT at no additional cost. I've enjoyed the ray tracing and DLSS features on my 3070, but the rasterization performance of the 6900 XT would obviously be a huge upgrade. I'm also concerned about the VRAM limitations of the 3070 in the long-term. Ultimately, I'd be sacrificing ray tracing because the 6900 XT just isn't competitive there, but gaining in almost every other way. I've given up on finding a 3080 in any realistic timeframe. I'm really torn about the decision. Does this seem like a good trade off?

You must have really overpaid for the 3070 to be able to trade it straight across without additional cost - generally I see AMD prices for GPUs to be much much higher (outrageously so) compared to their Nvidia counterparts.

If I were you, I'd take the 6900XT, provided it's not some kind of scam or something.

Depending on resolution, 8GB of VRAM has already been a limitation in some games, most recently in Doom Eternal with RT on at 4k. That said, 3070 isn't really marketed as a 4k card to begin with and is very easily resolved without much or any perceivable change.

Make sure it really is a 6900XT, and not a 6700XT or some shit. Although price-wise, the 6700XT is in-line with 3070 MSRP, IMO it's an inferior card.

Do it. You probably able to trade it with 3080 or 3080 Ti later?
Just make sure the card is 100% working, thermal and performance wise.

If you can make sure the card is really a 6900XT that functions, then that's a great trade.

The only things the 3070 has on it is better ray tracing performance, DLSS, Nvidia Reflex, and NVENC. Unless you need those features, the 6900XT is just better across the board in every other respect. For scale, at MSRP, the 6900XT costs twice as much as the 3070.

The 6900 XT is a much better card if you don't care about ray tracing or Dlss.

So I'd take that trade any day provided you can trust it.

yeah it is more a 3080ti competitor than a 3070, and with the new AMD "DLSS" when it will be supported, it will work better.

i would trade in a heartbeat if the card was with receipt and healthy

in before typo, it was really a 6700xt.

in that case, I would not take the trade. The 6700xt is inferior in almost every way that matters. The extra VRAM isn't helpful at resolutions that these cards are aimed at.

I'd be careful throwing stuff like that out there. Remember what RTX+DLSS was like on Ampere? Expect real world FSR+Ray Tracing to be closer to that. It's a first gen software.

OP is also talking about both RTX and DLSS. FSR won't be cleaning up gaps like this. Especially not this generation of FSR.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

In Europe from craiglist like sites I see the 6800 XT as low as 900€ and the 6900 XT around 1150€

Meanwhile the 3070 goes for 900€ and the 3080 is around 1300€.

AMD gpu's have much fairer prices, the 6900 XT sounds like the best value at the moment.

That said 1150€ for a card is no joke.

i think you should se what i actually write..

i writing that it WILL be better, i´m not writing that it will be better than DLSS 2.0, but if you get an extra feature on your brand new 6900xt, it will become easier to drive raytracing i´m not saying that my 3080 will not outperform it, but it will be better than stock 6900xt.

that is the only statement.

i would NEVER choose a 3070 over a 6900xt, because of the raw horsepower, unless i need some of the "features" a nvidia card has.

But i have a 3080.. because i bought it a launch. and i would not trade today. but that is a 3080 and that is a completely different card.

there are however things that make me curious, AMD platform are running raytracing on Xbox and PS5, now this is done 30-60FPS 4K on a console, these game when bound for PC should be able to at lease support a 6900xt for raytracing at high performance levels, because it is built for the optimizations that the AMD cards have, that is not a FACT, but it is a thought, and a hope.
