Upgrade path

Go to solution Solved by xg32,

if you are looking at a 3080 a 9900k wouldn't be the worst choice, but even assuming you can get a 9900k for 300, i'd rather have a 6900xt/3080ti for the extra cost, and then you go back to thinking about a cpu upgrade again,

The 8600k/9600k isn't enough in some situations/games even in 1440p, but it's still a can of worms to upgrade to a 9900k, which is almost the cost of a 5600x....you get the idea.

If i was you i would not upgrade the cpu.

I currently own  9600k and will pair it up with at least a 3080.

Ill be playing at 2.5k

I was wondering if the 9900k would be a reasonable upgrade considering the price has dropped to 330€

However for gaming the difference is marginal, and this trend continues with other options.

Am I better off waiting 1-2 generations for something better?

This basically confirms what I already thought.

Depending on the price of the 3080ti I might cancel my order of the 3080, but even if the msrp is reasonable the retail prices won't be.
