Now I've seen everything: Publishers issuing copyright strikes against animated GIFS

Publisher Take 2 Interactive: http://www.take2games.com/ is allegedly going around the web and taking down any content containing GTA V footage.

While taking down twitch streams that show off the game content like here is understandable ( http://www.twitch.tv/flamedragon213 ) and a regular practice that publishers exercise, Take 2 takes it a step further. More than 20 animated gifs have been removed.

Even videos that users have (intentionally) misnamed videos such as (PS3 footage while the actual content is from a PS4) this video have been taken down:

This is LTT. One cannot force "style over substance" values & agenda on people that actually aren't afraid to pop the lid off their electronic devices, which happens to be the most common denominator of this community. Rather than take shots at this community in every post, why not seek out like-minded individuals elsewhere?

I'm fairly confident an animated GIF is short enough to fall under fair use.

I don't see any reason that GIF files should be exempt from copyright legislation. Whether it actually DOES violate a copyright is up to the courts (assuming anybody ever starts caring enough about this to stand up to companies) but there's not really a legally-relevant reason that a GIF is significantly different from a short video.

Unless they know it sucks and is going to put people off buying it. GTA V has been out over a year now though so pretty much anyone interested has pretty much finished the game or at very least seen all the footage they want to so in this case it just doesn't make sense.

After having bought it twice already based on the promises of GTA online and it being complete garbage that didn't deliver on even a single one of their promises for an entire year I can't imagine anyone actually buying the ps4/XB1 or PC version until it's like $10 on steam for single player only which to be fair was ok but not great.

I had the perfect gta reaction gif, but I'm afraid to post it. -.-

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Does anybody remember when ISIS made that gta video trying to recruit members to their group? Maybe that has something to do with this...
