According to polls: A fifth of iPhone 6 users already broke/cracked their screen.

Tro

There's one kid at my school who literally threw his (partially-protected) iPhone 5s on the concrete ground "just for fun". And I really mean he threw it. I saw it myself and I have to say, I pretty much cringed. Of course the screen looked like a bullet shot through it. There weren't any teachers around to see it either. Apart from that, I see quite a lot of people at my school who had cracked screens.

Eh, 2000 people, when they've sold over 10,000,000 devices?

With a pool that small the 1/5 statement is rather far fetched.

"A fifth" =/= 50%.

Misleading headline.

Other than that, I can definitely believe it, people don't care for their devices, they'll just use the insurance or Apple Care and get a brand new one. Nothing lost other than wasted materials.

I've seen people use some pretty banged up phones before, they just don't take care of their stuff.

No one on a tech forum thinks a fifth is 50%. Calm down

And a fifth of that fifth know that they can get a new phone completely free of charge from Apple.

Apple offers a free 1-year warranty that will replace nearly anything for any reason. Just walk into their shop with an appointment and you'll be out in 10 minutes with a new phone

#Tech-SavvyMasterrace

What? Apple will not replace your iPhone if you smash the screen.. their warranty in no way covers accidental damage

Well I will report that my 6+ has no cracks or even a single micro scratch on it and the only protection I have on it is one of the silicone cases, and thats only on there about half the time. I take pretty good care of my devices though and have only ever cracked 1 smartphone in the last 8 years or so, and that was just a small crack from falling out of my pocket at a movie theatre.

Who would've thought...
It's not the phones fault that people can't take care of their stuff.
I've never cracked/scratched a phone screen in my life and I don't use a case nor screen protector.

Exactly. 20% means 2 million devices have had broken screens. Either get a bigger sample size (2000 is only 0.02%) or stop trying to make leaps of logic when your data doesn't support it.

I wonder if they did the same survey for HTC or Samsung users whether the results would be the same.  I don't dismiss the result out of hand, however I do question the interpretation we are putting on these results and just how far from reality they are for all smart phones not just iPhone.

I'd wager the industry average is around the same.

Personal anecdotes don't mean anything. I can say I've never broken or known anyone who broke their screen. You can say everyone you know has had a broken screen. 2000 samples is quite honestly NOTHING.

That is 0.02% of iPhone 6/6+ users out there. That is NOT enough for a statistically valid statement. Oh, and I used 2000/10000000 to get that number. For all we know Apple is on 20 million 6s sold now, further diminishing and making that sample size useless.

About 90% of iPhone users I know cracked their screen at least once. Not everyone is as careful with their phone as me it seems.

When its new (for few months) i treat my electronics like they were fragile diamonds. After that i toss them around like a tennis balls especially phones lol.

(Warning) Little rant:

Maybe i wont do that with my new nexus 5 as one drop can kill it due to very fragile screen. Also, I had a dream last night about dropping and damaging my phone. It devastated me and i was so revealed when i woke up knowing it was just a dream :)

Not to be rude, but they will replace it, look here:

Applecare+ is a paid for service ($100) also it costs $79 per incident and only covers you for 2 cases of accidental damage

I annoys me a lot when people have shattered screen no matter the phone. My One X missed my pocket once and while the screen was intact the left roe of the LCD had pooped and gooed itself.

Got it repaired immediately.

We are staring to see more of these. I had a customer come in with a mild bend but the screen popped out in the middle just bending over with it in his pocket. 3rd one we've seen come through.

Pics or GTFO. And a couple thousand more cases to be statistically relevant.

Anecdotal evidence is useless.

I run my 6+ naked and it's always in my pockets and it has no bend. That carries as much validity as you saying that.

It depends on your shape, weight, pressure points and types of jeans. I am a VZW Solutions Specialist in case you didn't know. Currently there have been a few thousand cases however for a recall to happen there would need to be at least 300,000 cases.
