NOAA Issue Solar Storm Warning

Forecasters at NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) are expecting G3 (strong) geomagnetic storm conditions to occur on Earth Jan. 9 and 10. The source of this pulse to the geomagnetic field is an Earth-directed coronal mass ejection (CME), a burst of charged particles and magnetic field from the sun.

Do they know what regions will be effected. I know that we have about a 40 min warning so I take it that the charged particles have already hit.

NOPE: There are massive CME's that happen regularly, and it rarely impacts us at all.

The earths magnetic field shields us from solar particles.. Only very rarely does it penetrate the atmosphere to cause damage to electrical systems on the earths surface.

There was news about a similar thing not too recently. It did nothing. Maybe for the satellites, but that's about it
