I think we all agree it is important that everyone get a fair equal chance to prove their metal in the folding month and as such dealing with any and all issues no matter how small is also just as important.

@Ben Quigley @palespartan @Gorgon I have a Nvidia 640m Gpu in my laptop but the folding software do not use it can you help me configure the software to utilize Gpu?

By default the folding client will not fold while on battery to consume battery life.  You need to tell it to be able to fold while on battery or plug it in.

 

Also verifythat the 640M is in the GPU whitelist.  It appears that it was back in 2012 but some people had issues with them.

 

can you send the startup log contents and a screenshot of GPU-Z

XOC is saying in order for me to get in the current top 100 it's gonna take an extra 1.5 months at a 1.3m PPD rate

I am able to make use of gpu for folding i had to free up a cpu core for that. few minutes of reads and a  quick youtube video helped me

Use the “User Overtake” report Luke. You will be close but at your current production rate assuming no one else around you boosts theirs you will touch on the current edge of the top 100 around Dec 2nd.

 

But also factor that @_Rlocke @jakkuh_t @Dissitesuxba11s and @porina are all in front of you and will push the bar higher to about the 4th or the 5th of December.

 

and don’t forget to watch your back as @DUW1G1T and @Invaderzim117 are both not too far behind you and producing slightly more.

 

May the wind be at your back and you not be accursed with 11718 or 11728s

 

Now if you manage to beg, buy, borrow or steal another GPU ... but far be it for me to promote impulse buying of hardware this close to The Holidays.

@Gorgon @palespartan I have a new problem i have two work units one for Gpu and one for Cpu but my Cpu Work Unit is stuck 99.99% for hours now , I have restarted my laptop several times but it wont help . Please help me .

It looks like it's still running at around 93%.

 

When you shutdown the FAHClient then resume it it will pick up at the last checkpoint it was at. Checkpoints are, by default, made every 15 minutes so you might lose 15 minutes of work.

 

The log also shows:

16:56:53:WARNING:WU01:FS00:Changed SMP threads from 1 to 3 this can cause some work units to fail

 

So changing the number of threads assigned to CPU folding may have caused an issue.

 

In general, when you want to make changes to the threads for CPU folding or are installing or moving a GPU it is a good idea to set that Slot to "Finish" and wait until it is done.

 

Setting the "Expert" option "pause-on-start" to "true" can also help when trying to troubleshoot as by default the FAHClient will start with the PC on boot and immediately start trying to download new Work Units (WUs) to process or continue work on ones in progress which may not be what you want.

it seems to be working now as it shows 94.75% instead 99.99% . and yes I recently added a Gpu slot that may have caused an issue. now my cpu Work unit is set to finnishing and gpu wu is paused . I plan on resuming the gpu wu after cpu wu is completed . or should i just resume the gpu wu and hope for everything to workout?

Resume the GPU and if you need to shutdown to adjust the threads on the CPU then just pause the GPU and set the "pause-on-start" to "true" in the Expert tab in the configuration.

Don't forget to disable it when your comfortable it's behaving or the next forced reboot from Microsoft will stop it folding.

ok Thanks . it feels good to be able to help with my computer although when i see people posting their points per day i  wonder whether my 1k points per day is relevant or not

Every single bit helps. We all contribute to the best of our ability. This month I'm even folding on an old ChromeBook that gets 1800PPD just so I can contibute a bit more and see how the NaCl client works on old hardware.

 

Have you obtained a passkey yet? After 10 WUs are completed it dramatically boosts your points. Also you should be able to get better than 1000 PPD with even the mobile GPU you are using.

 

You need to let the client process a couple of frames (usually 1/100 of a WU) before it will start displaying accurate estimates of your production.

Or you could buy another gaming rig then have one rig folding 24/7 and the other to game on then fold the rest of the time... but then you're going to want that one folding too so you'll end up needed a third rig to game on while the other two fold...

welp, the top 10 is absolutely filled with 2M+ PPD producers, and the waterblock for my 1070 is delayed yet again... at this rate i'll be happy if i even get it in november.

so yeah, guess i'll finish this one in the top 20. next folding month tough...

Just picked up a Ryzen 2600/TUF B450 mobo and a 1080 Ti for $600. Wonder if I should throw it together on a cardboard box and fold...
