[Somewhat clickbaity title] LG just teased its new 5-camera smartphone less than a week before the official announcement

The thing is, even with 1 micron, V30 had better that G6. It is still behind Pixel, S9 or P20 even with GCAM, and even more on low light, except Pixel, it sucks as well in low light. It sucks most of the time, no argument.

Well, it does have a wider aperture (seems to offset the smaller sensor size) and probably updated processing.

But it falls short of the typical flagship competition.

The thing is, LG has better cameras than you think, it's their software that sucks, and it sucks bad. That's why we have GCAM. Attaching pics for comparison.

Completely different thing. Guess which one is which.

But I wouldn't compete them with said phones. With GCAM V30 is S8 level in light. Meh on low light.

That's why I use it mostly, slowest exposure time, highest pixel count. I'd swap it every day of the week

The biggest problem with V40 though is the size imo. V30 is 6", big, I can still use it ok with one hand, but V40 is 6.4". That imo is way too big. I know, it's the trend, but it's too big of a leap.

Gonna have to compare it to the V20

Yah after my experience with my G6, I'm not going to buy an LG phone again. Its such a pice of shit, camera is poo, the updates it gets are killing its usability and causing all sorts of visual glitches and lockups and the vibration motor is spastic and sometimes dosent even work or semi works or whatever at complete random. USB C port is super loose already too, which is something my OP2 never experienced. It's still a crisp fit after years of use and this shit slab isn't even a year old yet.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Oh LG. I'm honestly surprised you're still in business. Though, if HTC is still making phones, I don't see why you can't either.

I hope this marks a huge step up of LG's game. Their last few phones have been really lackluster, and I've always liked the V series...it just always seems to fall short.

The image with the V shaped camera array is definitely just them saying "look, in total it'll have 5 cameras." 2 front, 3 back.

Personally, I'm more excited to see what Nokia did with their 5 camera rear set up. Rumor has it they're going to revive the PureView name, and it'd be a great phone to bring out their big guns on. I said months ago I wanted a phone with 5 sensors, and they're finally going to give it to me.

can i please get a phone that is thicker with an actually good lens and a single large sensor, thank you (similar to the lumia one with optical zoom)

Panasonic had your back years ago. Sadly, they haven't made anything since. I was really hoping it'd be a new phone every couple of years deal from them.

They really had a great idea.

Yes, but you also told him where he was wrong. That's where the backseat moderating came in, and that's why he mentioned it.

If you'd reported the post and said nothing, nothing would have been said.

Yeah. Idek why manufacturers are trying to put so many cameras on phones -_-.

All I need is 1 good rear camera and 1 good front camera lol.

Oh! I get it. Because you only need one, that's all that should be on all phones. I get how it works now :)

On 9/28/2018 at 7:26 AM, alexbsajackson said:

The most I can justly see on a phone is 3.

1 Front Facing and 2 Rear.

Why would anyone need 5?

See below.

On 9/28/2018 at 7:36 AM, mynameisjuan said:

I wouldnt mind 3 on the back for Zoom, standard, wide. No fucking clue what 2 more would give me.

Color information, better low light performance, depth information, etc. Or it'll create super large images, like on the Huawei phones.

On 9/28/2018 at 7:42 AM, D13H4RD2L1V3 said:

Yeah, it really does look like 3 on the rear and 2 on the front.

Knowing LG, the main array’s probably going to be a primary camera supplemented by 2 modules dedicated to wide-angle and zooming.

Hopefully. That's the way it should be.

Is GCAM an app, or do you have to root the phone?

The poor camera performance was one of the reasons I didn't really consider the V30. Though if it's still poor in low light, I'd save my money and just grab an Essential Phone.

If they have a notch, we might not see much of a size increase at all. I'd be willing to bet we'll see a few mm growth in length and that's about it. Not too bad.

Well, the V30 was significantly smaller than the V20, so at worst it'll still be smaller.

It's an app, no root needed, cstark27 from XDA is constantly developing it.

I think it's gonna be noticeably bigger, but we'll see. Can't really get. 4" from just the bezel on this phone.

Interesting. Sounds like a must download for that phone. I wonder if those are cheap...

Does it work with the V20? I was thinking about getting one for my dad for Christmas.

Eh, you'd be surprised. Add a notch and you might gain something like 0.2" in diagonal space. The other 0.2" wouldn't require a much larger body.

Really, when it comes to a few mm, you're unlikely to notice a difference after a few days.

It works with V20, g7, g6, and many other phones. Apparently he announced few days ago he won't be developing this port anymore, but no need if it works. V4.2t3 works flawlessly for me. You can see comparison on stock vs GCAM in my other response here.

Imo it's not only about dimensions of the phone, the screen size is the problem. Remember when 7" used to be tablet size? But that's me.

Well, I also remember when they were in 16:9 format and not something like 18:9...makes quite a difference when it comes to thinking about screen size and usability.

if it's not using dual processing tech then Ima be dissapoint. That's partly what gave such an interesting depth to gradients in processed photos. there was extra information to work on.

My note8 with telephoto x wide lens is kinda meh all around tbh.
