why the hell is this a thing

why the hell is it that the Dan Case A4 SFX is $200. I could buy a high end ATX case for that money, and its an ITX CASE. WHY IS IT MORE EXPENSIVE THAN AN GOOD ATX CASE. Also this isnt just to single out DAN Case im talking all ITX case in general that are this small

Because there are many more thing than just "how big is it" that dictate the price of a product.

Stuff like how large the company is, how many products are made, how complex the product is to make, if the product is mass produced, how many buyers there are, what distribution methods the company has access to, etc etc etc.

ITX is still seen as niche or specialty--which it is. Niche or specialty products tend to be more expensive, sometimes ridiculously so.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Go try to bring your own product to market as a single person or small group of people and you will understand why a tiny computer case needs to cost hundreds of dollars and even then might make you 0 profit.

It can not fit the same size of graphics cards as the Dan case, but everything else is fairly close.

I have one of these, also build by Lian Li, its an awesome little case and with the mini GPUs you can get it can actually be quite the little beast

it does not cost an unreasonable amount considering the quality and size

Because standard atx cases are bog standard with little innovation. Dan case is made in small batches, premium materials, engineering to get a functional layout with limited space for a platform not as common.

price premiums

As others have said about manufacturing costs and what not, it appears DAN Case is a tiny company that at least on their website, literally has only one product that's catering to a niche.

So they kind of have to charge more than you'd like because they're not some big company like Antec or Corsair who can push out enough product for volume discounts.

You know, if we take a small company and have them make niche cases in the atx form factor, costs would be just as premium. Look at Case Labs before they went under.

My itx case itself offers far more air flow than most modern atx cases and it was about $50. It's almost entirely manufacturering than the itx platform.

Tooling a case from the ground up can take hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions. Cost is driven down by volume and reusing frames / designs.
