do high-end routers give you better pings when gaming?

saif96

im getting an average ping between 120-190ping in any game i join so i've been wondering if i buy a high-end ''gaming'' routers like asus, will i get a better lower ping? or are these expansive routers made for fast wireless use

the reason im getting high ping is because i live in Dubai, and theirs not alot of games that have middle eastern servers, and getting a faster internet speed package is just too expansive i only have 50mbp speed and i cant afford to get a higher package so would a new router help out? getting me below 100ping?

or is my only option is to wait till Elon Musk or whoever to invent a new tech that gives everyone the lowest ping possible worldwide in the future?

(note i do use ethernet cable)

50Mbps is more than plenty for any game. Your ping is purely due to your location. If you connect to West-EU servers, or servers in east Asia, you're between a rock and a hard place. A better router won't do a thing, especially since you're already connected via ethernet.

If you're on ethernet than unless your router is pure shit you should be achieving the highest speed/lowest ping possible, gaming router do improve performance in some scenarios (wifi one of those) but it won't solve your problem. If you have a bad connection straight from the isp there's nothing you can do unfortunately.

Higher transfer rate might not necessarily improve latency. Unless your current router is garbage, upgrading it wont lower ping either.   Maybe a subscription to WTFast can help

Not really, no. As long as you're connected using ethernet and there's QoS enabled on the router, there isn't much else you can do on your end and going for some ridiculous "gaming-router" isn't going to make a lick of a difference.

High speeds wont help your ping. Ping is affected by your location from the game server.

Changing the router may give a very tiny boost, if the new one can do NAT better than your current one (e.g. hardware offloading). But mostly the change will not be that noticeable.

Increasing bandwidth is not going to help, it still takes same time for the data to move from your computer to the server. For example upgrading from 2-seat car to 5-seat car. You can move more people/stuff at the same time, but you still have to travel the same distance and follow same speed limit.

I actually had a small ping drop when I moved from a consumer router to a PFsense box.

But the consumer router was also very old and very overloaded so YMMV

Short answer is no not really.

If you're currently on Wi-Fi you can use an Ethernet cable, that's about it.
