What’s the worst part of your rig?

MeltyMoon

My case. The Obsidian 450D sucks balls. Don't get it.

Huh, why so? I was thinking about it for my secondary. Any specific issues of note?

Top fan grille easily breaks, latching system for front fan filter came broken, window scratches REALLY easily, HDD activity LED doesn't work, doesn't even fit an H105 in the top, Front headphone jack only works half the time, rubber feet came off after a month, magnets on bottom filter are weak and don't actually stop any dust, do I need say more?

Intel ended support for the entire Core 2 series. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. They have potential, now bring back support dammit. This is why I'm never buying a Core i processor. EVER.

I never understood you when it came to Core 2.

They ended support because the Core i series was it's successor. They're better in pretty much every way except for maybe overclocking, but that is to be expected from a smaller, more efficient, cooler, more powerful production process. Why would Intel, by the way, support something so damn old? Their objective is not to have everyone on 5+ year old hardware, but to get everyone to modern hardware (helping their sales, may I add?).

Eh, not into a full tower for what will be a single GPU aircooled machine.

But there are people who still use the Core 2 platform merely because the Core i series is still too expensive. Sure it may be 5 years, but I think the Core 2 series is still better, or at least done some more improvement. You see, Vista, for example, released back in 2005, but you see, it's still has support until 2016. Why can't Intel do the same?

Too expensive?

An i3 is $120, a motherboard is $40, and that combo outperforms a Core 2 Quad Q6600 9 times out of 10 for most everything from productivity to gaming. $160. And if you're not an enthusiast, then you probably have bought a new computer at this point (prebuilts aren't that expensive, and most average people with Core 2 CPUs have C2Ds.) A modern Celeron or Pentium will easily hand a Core 2 Duo it's ass. Then again, expense is based on perception. I think $210 (factoring in RAM) is pretty fair for a performance boost. You, being a kid with no source of income, may think that it's too expensive. Either way, Intel make a healthy profit.

And why can't Intel do the same as a software company? Because software is different. With an OS, there are security exploits and bugs that may need fixing. But with a CPU platform, nothing really needs fixing. If someone's 6 year old motherboard dies, they should either go on eBay and get one of the thousands of used 775 boards out there or invest in a new platform. There is no point for Intel to support an outdated hardware platform. Zero. There are no tangible benefits for them.

That will not outperform a Q6600.

I would find more, but most people don't do these tests anymore. But I can tell you with experience that it will outperform a Q6600 in pretty much any case.

Well, I'd rather stick with my Q6600, but if I had to upgrade, I would go with a Q9650.

I told you I can be extreme fanboying towards Core 2. I told you. I warned you.

The only thing I dislike about my rig is the setup. Cheap desk with an old but reliable dell mouse. And a 900p monitor.

But being 15 and not able to have a job yet, I can't really complain.

900p is actually pretty nice...

depends on screen size however...

i have a 19'' dell st2010 1600x900 and its perfect... not the sharpest thing in the world but damn is it good for low en hardware.

secretly, i want to build my own i5 or i7 system for myself, as my brotther is taking mine.

The secondary PCIE slot at 2.0 4x, which would be fine.. IF...it wasn't running via a secondary chipset, ie, it's not native, and has extra extra latency that kills the ability to use multiple GPU's and have any gains.

Should have picked one that does 8x8 I know, but at the time, this was a quick buy (replacement parts for dying machine needed STAT)

Tis actually, Gaming @ 900p on a 6770 OC in my mums machine was VERY comfortable framerate wise, recently moved her to 1080p (not a huge jump visually) and dropped enough performance to need a newer GPU.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

not to keep this going, buuuttttt..........

for someone who will be getting a free computer with a core 2 duo for free soon... it doesnt sound all that bad.

a core 2 quad. a gtx 570. any old ssd that i can find laying around will easily out-preform 99% of the computers within ten miles of me.

900p stirkes that perfect sweet spot, where its easy to run like 720 is, but looks just about as good as 1080. even on a slightly larger screen.
