BIOS Settings for Intel 8-core on 300 series Chipset

Reports have started circulating which seem to indicate that Intel's 300-series BIOS' already offer support for 8-core processors, with an Anandtech poster called "dooon" posting screenshots which shows that both Z370 and H310 motherboards have hidden BIOS options that reference support for up to eight processing cores. Further verification of this came from a Reddit user called "eric98k" who found similar references in BIOS files from both ASRock and Gigabyte Z370 motherboards. ~ OC3D

Can you imagine having an 8-core I7? That would be incredible! I'd stay with intel for sure, though I dont really see them releasing a whole new updated line of processors and still sticking with the 300 series chipset. Maybe there is a plan to unlock enthusiast and work-station grade processors on the low end/cut down versions to become compatible? That would be neat :3

When they tested this with a 200 series chipset enabled, it only went up to 4 cores, yet when it as tested with 300, there was 8? I really do wonder if there is a big update coming, but I just dont see them releasing the 9th gen processor while using the same 300 series chipsets. :v

Update:

@Rakanoth

I was listening to the WAN show and heard of this! Possibly more confirmation of an actual 8-core?! Wow this may actually be a thing!

@done12many2 doesn't have to.

If it weren't for custom AR building being as easy as it is, neither would I.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

we had quad cores for so loooong on consumer chips. it's about time things doubled.

tho we could probably stick to 8 for a bit.

Many Z370 mobos, except the top end ones, have very so-so VRM. They are fine for 4 cores. Marginally ok for 6 cores when overclocked. But 8 cores???? Even if the updated BIOS supports new 8-core SKU. I won't just stick an 9700K(or whatever) in unless the mobo has a good VRM to cope with the extra power consumption. Otherwise, the first time you try your 5GHz with prime95, you see a plume of smoke...

Just bought a cheap used 4770 and I think I'll be on this for many years still. Excited to finally see improvements in the CPU realm though

That's an F in the profile pic

To be honest, I'm only expecting 8 cores on the 8900K or whatever the hell Intel calls their 8 core mainstream platform CPU.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

48 core TR would require 2 6-core CCX per die x4 for 4 dies to equal 48 cores.

It wouldn't make sense to make a 10c ryzen, since you would have 2 5 core CCXs. 2 6 core CCXs is more likely, meaning 12c Ryzen 3.

Intel's "core moves" are pretty clearly in response to AMD's future products. And we're probably getting 12c next year. Though the sense is more Q3 than Q1 2019. I guess we'll see how yields go.

Though I'm going to laugh if the ~100 USD lowest SKU is going to be 6c/12t from AMD next year.
