Had a quick glance at it, and seems like it might be the way to go. Haven't got one myself to test or anything, so you'll have to research.

This might be really helpful, as a friend has deleted the account to their 8 year olds Asus pad... and guess what happens if you delete an account before removing child lock? Yep, it turns into a brick (cannot login as account deleted, cannot take off child lock as account deleted, loop forever ;) ).

Things you'll need:

- Windows computer / possibly Linux if you are savvy enough.
- Z300m with Android 7 (check if there's updates, if so, reboot tablet when done.)
- USB Cable (the one that came with it, or one you are sure works)
- MediaTek VCOM Preloader Drivers (I will explain further below) (Win10 installed drivers work too)
- Z300m Scatter File
- TWRP 3.1.1 image
- SP Flash Tool 5.1532
- SP Flash Tool 5.1548 or later (latest is 5.1720 at the time of this writing)
- Magisk Manager (Beta 13 works)

or

- TWRP 3.1.1 Recoveryasboot

Create a temp folder on your desktop and throw all the above downloads in there.

Looked like they are there to me, clicked and seen links.

does that make it against the community standards?

If it's against their ToS, yes.

But it's likely not.

okay so For anybody wondering i did manage to get it rooted. to do so follow the steps on this site https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/twrp-custom-recovery-asus-zenpad-8-0-t3588765 to get twrp installed. Once that was done i went to the older verison of that forum about the z300m https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenpad-10/how-to/installing-twrp-rooting-asus-zenpad-10-t3612693 where it said to flash magisk 13 which worked for me. Whilst many other people said v16.0 worked, it just bricked my device and the same with super su. so for me 13.1 was the only version of magisk that worked without bricking the device.  For anybody who has bricked the device, install twrp and flash the stock rom that can be found on the asu website https://www.asus.com/us/Tablets/ASUS-ZenPad-8-0-Z380M/HelpDesk_Download/
