Does this even count as exotic cooling?

So TLDR Didn't have thermal paste at home. So what is the next best thing?

 

TOOTHPASTE!!!

 

P.S. Did this while the laptop was on. Why? Too lazy to turn it off.

 

Step 1: Remove the heatsink while the PC is running.

Apply TOOTHPASTE!!?

Thermal paste is cheap on eBay. Any reason why you went with toothpaste?

Removed quite a bit afterwards ;) (before putting the cooler on). It should be OK.

 

The laptop itself costs around 20$. It is from 2007 so buying 10$ thermal paste not worth it...

Yeah... toothpaste dries and cracks. You might want to get that changed quick.

Hahaha... yes :-)

But I hope that you don’t use that much liquid metal as thermal paste though. If you apply the cooler afterwards, all of it will be squeezed out the sides.

I've used it before on my Core 2 Quad q6600, and it never overheated for the 8 months I left it on there. It did dry up eventually, but worked surprisingly well.

 

And yes, I was serious about it, as I was too poor to buy a $5 tube of thermal paste.
