It ran for months without issues before carting it and my infrastructure across town, sigh. At least the DIMMs are all functioning fine

I had download issues a couple of times over last month. Luckily, last 7 days everything is working fine on three systems (all on "Advanced")

Folding@home is a network of volunteer computers distributed around the world that aims to perform biomedical research with the single intent of helping to further understand and develop cures for a range of diseases such as; Alzheimer's, cancer, and Parkinson's. The exact research that is done is simulating the 'folding' of proteins in the body, this is important because the function of a protein is directly related to its physical shape. And thus, when the protein is created in the body it needs to reshuffle its shape to get into the correct structure to perform its task. Many illnesses can be linked to faulty proteins in the body such as many cancers and neurological issues, along with a wide number of other general health concerns. This network if compared with the TOP500 list of supercomputers would fall into 2nd, Folding@home is one of the world's fastest computing systems, with a speed of approximately 98.7petaFLOPS. It would be 50% faster than the fastest x86 computer currently listed on the top500. 

 

If you are wondering what exactly has been done with all this computing power then you can check out the papers written by the scientists and researchers that use the folding network, I will warn you though many of them are very in depth reads and in turn this means they are often fairly technical.

Where do you get this statistic from? Would be cool if we could see how much it's changed since then.

I looked through various data found online to come to this conclusion. I will most likely do the same for the next folding month. But I imagine as more Turing cards have come online this has climbed to some degree or another.

I'm finally back up and folding. Summer in my new house felt way too hot to consciously add more heat... (I struggle with the heat more than my PC  )

 

 Now we are rolling into Autumn here in NZ, I'll be churning out the WU's again

Posted my final thoughts after running my 6 GPU Folding rig for almost 4 months.

I'm getting some weirdness, and I don't know if it's just me. 1) stats aren't showing on the web control and the official stats page says "bad gateway". 2) Twice now I have gotten a download bug where everything on the selected work unit says "unknown" and I have had to remove the GPU slot and add it again to fix it. Though the work queue still shows the "unknown" download jobs. Is this just par-for-the-course and I happen to be unlucky today, or is there a system wide problem? Edit: I'm folding an estimated 800,000-1,000,000 ppd but Extreme overclockers is showing around 250,000 for 24hr avg, and all users seem to be down since March 1.

finally, EoC has had a recent spate of work done on it but 7 day average is also a screwy figure

Basically this, but if you are still wanting to use web control then use incognito to get it to work. This usually solves the issue

2. Downtime for ITNOS
3. Effort

Is the UD5H that good? I never really pushed my 4790K on it at all. Or do you just want it for the color scheme/looks?

The BIOS code and on board power/reset buttons were the reasons I ended up with this board IIRC since this was my first build. The debug actually helped me determine an issue (I forget what) but it was well worth the money the first time around! (I paid like $180 or something)

 

Back then I had no idea about VRM cooling or anything so I got lucky with that. Part of me would like to see what the board is capable of, but again, I'd have to tear down ITNOS to stick the 4790K back in, which would be a waste of a perfectly good CPU that I'm still using in my current system.

And I though I was a dinosaur still running a Xeon e3-1231v3 in my Daily Driver that i5 4690K is of the same genre and a whole 100MHz faster (and over-clockable)

Definitely not, my 4790K still kicks (and I know it's not the only one). I will upgrade to Ryzen eventually, but even then I'm not giving up the 4790K. I'll leave it in my 380T, put the 970 back and use it as a LAN party rig for when I travel. I just love the CPU and case too much to give them up.

 

I've seen people only now upgrading from 2600K and 2700K's.

i miss haswell. the last of the good intel CPU's.

I went with the Xeon as I had stability problems with the previous system I was using so I paired it with a SuperMicro X10-SL7F and 32GB Crucial ECC Memory and it's been rock-solid for 5 years. It's currently living in a Fractal Node 804 with an AMD FirePro W4100 and 4 3TB Seagate NAS drives in a RAID 10 on the on-board LSI Controller.

 

I've been looking at the Corsair Air 540 and thinking of pulling the trigger on that as you can still find new old stock at reasonable prices and it will fit the space I have the Node 804 in but that would set off a spate of hardware buying.

I feel ashamed I'm not in on the action all that well, there's an issue with the breaker box that means I can't pull more than 1kw on the ring upstairs, the council says they are going to fix it soon...
