Glad to hear your keeping on folding and and keeping busy. That will help keep your mind off your worries.

 

With just one GPU does GPU-Z show the main slot as x16 and when you have the second GPU in does the main slot drop to x8? Or, in other words, the PCI switch chip might not be working and taking the top 8 lanes from the upper GPU slot and delivering them to the lower GPU slot (or might not be detecting the second card)

 

I doubt it’s a GPU issue and I assUme you’ve tried forcing x8/x8 mode if the BIOS supports it. Have you tried different BIOSes?

 

My GigaByte Z370SLI put me through hell, to the point I almost RMAed it, before I finally got it to post. Turned out the dual BIOS had detected what it thought was a boot loop and reverted to a crappy BIOS.  After forever I noticed the old BIOS and after a reflash it worked finally.

It's only 18F outside, but my CPU and GPU on my folding rig are running 10C colder because they sit next to my window, and my window doesn't close all the way. Did I mention it's windy?

4.5 months at our current rate, which has slowly been declining since the end of the folding month.

Yeah I noticed our production was declining. Is this just a gradual drop off after the competition month you guys had? (I've only just switched from WCG, so I'm a newb to F@H). Or is it some sort of seasonal trend?

i think it's also the new WU's. i've been getting a lot less points since those got introduced. i'm down to 1.6M from 1.9M PPD on average

How? I've lost only about 50K, from around 475~ down to 425~. Unless I've not gotten any of the new ones yet. I'm currently working on 14125, tho if you got hit by 14139 rip your points (going to see if I can grab it).

i'm not even sure how, i have my PC folding while i'm at work, so i don't really see what WU's it gets.

all i know is the average PPD i see on the EOC page, and it's down 300K

Well mines now down to 200k w/o doing much more than watching one youtube video and using chrome So maybe it is a issue with the program or windows doing something in the background as I looked and only one of my FAH tasks where using 100% GPU when both should be... As for the WU's your log should tell you what you've downloaded/uploaded in the last 24 hours. just copy it into notepad (or anything with a find feature) and look for "project:" There's Send and Download along with the " (run" which is for a project starting/restarting.

Yes, it is a gradual drop-off after the Folding Month finished in November.  We lost a lot of production right after the month as was to be expected but there’s been a slow decline since the initial drop-off. Some of this slow decline are more people stopping folding and some of it is people power-limiting their folding so it’s more efficient.

 

In the Northern Hemisphere this is the season to be folding as the heat generated will offset, to some extent, the heating required in cold climates as opposed to the folding Penalty in the Summer where this additional heat adds an additional burden when running an air conditioner.

I know that some WUs lower the production (11718 anyone) but in general with all the new 14xxx units I’ve seen some lowering PPD but these are offset by some which produce above what I’d normally see for a specific card.

 

im currently runnng 3 Pascal and 2 Turing GPUs and Ive noticed that some WUs do poorly on a 1060 but average on a 1070 Ti and there are some that do poorly on Pascal but OK on Turing.

 

One of the benefits of running many cards (aside from the obvious one) is that these WU variations in PPD get smoothed out faster. With one or two cards your Daily production will likely be more spikey but average out over the week. Partly due to WU PPD and partly due to EOC’s only sampling every 3 hours.

 

If you install HFM.net it will record all your WU stats and can produce reports you can analyze in a spreadsheet. It can also be used instead of the Advanced Control to monitor and control your folding.

Unfortunately people don't have that incentive of a free GPU anymore so they don't have any reason to join.

We've been able to keep around a good amount of folders though, we still have over 10,000 active folders according to EOC. Much better than I thought.

That's great to hear! Since we just hit the 10th 11th place team spot, I think we're still going strong.

We have 617 active folders on the team.

I've had this issue before, for me the only sure fire way to fix was to reinstall the software.
