Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

Well the option you get is usually the way the manufacturer intended it to fit.

Personally i'll buy the rims where i can find a good deal. And then i bring them to a tire shop to check which will fit the rim in the nicest way.

For my next car i'll go in and i'll find a wheel+tire combo that is just right. Like this one

I wonder what the tyre wear is like in the pic i posted. The sidewall must be rock hard.

Speaking of nokians. You never really see those being stretched like that xD Mostly toyo, bridgestone or pirellis

I actually saw a BMW yesterday that was lowered too much, had tailpipes that you could fit a melon inside, had chrome rims, shit tonnes of camber on all four wheels and stretched Nokians ( I hate typing it like that)

@techswede but generally lets say the *Normal* tire size is 215/55R17

If I want to go down to 215/45R17 can that be definetly done since all im doing is shrinking the tire sidewall height???

If so, if I would of known this I would of got my dad some decent summer tires instead of the stupid all seasons he has on right now. xD They didnt have summer tires in his exact size, but i wasnt sure if the smaller sidewall was gonna fit (didnt want to take a risk since we needed new tires quickly)

Looked like an E30, because it was very simple and square.

Not sure though because models names like that just jumble up as a mess in my head

The tires should fit right on the rims. But the speedo will no longer be accurate and need to be adjusted/ Gotten used to and it might look strange since the tires will be a bit smaller

That's.. worse

The E36 has become really popular in the stance crowd though so i wouldn't be surprised

I am anti-stance for one simple reason. Roll into an inspection place with a stanced car.. And you'll need to trailer it home. Because here in sweden you'll get a pretty sticker on the front window.

And they will generally not slap one of those on a car with a cracked brakeline. Which means they see it as being more unsafe than a busted brake circuit..

I'm yet to see what Honda comes up to replace the s2k, since they're going to produce the nsx. Probably something with a turbo attached.

You have to check the load capacity of the tire and recompute the proper tire pressure as well. The load capacity generally shrinks with the smaller tire.

Tire dealers generally shy away from selling tires that are significantly different in diameter or those with a lower load capacity because they want to stay away from potential liabilities from reduced performance/safety or misuse.

he used to have a lower profile tire on his car, one time when he brought it in, the shop had put normal tires on it. We never figured out the size that was on it before but I think that might be it. But I will take a look at all that next time he is due for tires.

Honda is attempting a recovery as it is slipping behind in market share. It tried to out-Toyota Toyota with no success. It is now trying another route.

Honda is in a weird position in Japan as it is wedged between the "big car" makers Toyota and Nissan and the "small car" specialists Daihatsu and Suzuki. Honda used to be a small car specialist as well, but aspired to compete in the larger vehicle segments. It ended up as an intermediate brand like Subaru and Mazda, but without the cult following of either (at least not since the 90s). It is hoping to liven up its brand image with products like the new NSX and the Civic Type-R.

Mitsubishi is actually making a strong recovery in the developing world, particularly in southeast Asia. It is discounting its way to success with small cars and trucks. A comparably-speced Mitsubishi can cost as much as 30% less than the equivalent Honda. They cut corners to do this for sure, but the low pricing helps tremendously in the price-conscious segments that they now choose to compete in. They're the lowest-priced major brand for the most part.

I bet they still use manual windows in their base models to cut costs, like how the japanese used to do that back in the 90s and 00s. But what I don't understand is why Mazda decided to cut power windows and even a radio in their base minivan, 2000-2001 exactly.

Or a bit over like this

Since it protects the rim a bit extra from curbing. (The owner of the car in the picture still seems to have managed to curb it...)

When the tire touches curb before the wheel.

The owner of my go-to tire shop has said that he will slap anyone that tries to get him to stretch tires more than this

I wonder what the tyre wear is like in the pic i posted. The sidewall must be rock hard.

Honestly, i kinda like it with a little more over, since my protege actually has it. it came factory with 195/50 16 but my dad bought 205s every time so it does overhang a bit, but still manages to get some pretty bad curb rash.
