Go to solution Solved by Crunchy Dragon,

You could do that, I don't think temperatures would be the best however. If you can scrape together $30 you could get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

Hey guys ;)

I wanted to know i could run a 7700k on my old i3 6100 stock cooler, could i play games without worries? I have not got money at the moment so i cant really buy coolers..

Thanks!!

Nope

The i3 cooler is not the same as the 7700K, it's about half the material, and would not be able to dissipate the amount of heat that cpu will pump out.

i don't think it's enough, it depends on voltage and airflow/case temp...but overall not a good idea, i would go in the bios and try to lower the voltages.

this is a nice cooler for the price:

Wouldn't recommend it because the i3 6100 runs at 51 TDP and the i7 7700k is at around ~95-100 TDP so your best bet is to buy some after market cooler. Even the cheap DEEPCOOL, or some other Chinese brands will do (I won't recommend that either but it's your choice).

Do you guys think the 212 evo would be fine with a 980 ti, 8gb ram ddr4 (2133Mhz) Itb storage and the i7 7700k? with 550w?

I would personally get a different CPU cooler like the H7 or M9i. The 212 evo isn't that worth it anymore because there's decent alternatives.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

it should be fine if you don't overclock/overvolt your graphics card imo

H7 cryorig is worth the extra few $ over the 212.

I can actually run my 8700K with MCE on using a Hyper 212 Evo.

That said, I can't go any further as stress testing at 4.7 GHz all-core turbo (with manual voltage of 1.25v since MCE sucks) still pushes my CPU to 83 C peak. So no more gains can be had until I get some better cooling. Eyeballing something from Noctua in the future.
