Well, i think it's because of human instinct; stay away from animals that live in sewers and/or in garbage. That's why most humans don't like mice, rats, cockroaches, etc..

Mice are pretty chill from what I've seen. (I had a really bad mouse problem last year.)

 

I've had several of them sit across from me (a reasonable distance) and stare at me for a moment then run off. It creeped me out the first time or two, I just felt eyes on me and turned to see the tiny little critter staring curiously at me.

 

I also remember one particular one that was across the room on the dining table while I was watching some anime on the TV. I turned around and saw it peering over from its spot and I joked (I was bored) like "Oh! You wanna watch some Dragon Ball Z with me? I think Goku is gonna kick some ass in this episode!" *mouse squeaks and runs* "YOU"RE MISSING OUT!!!! IT'S GONNA BE COOL!!! Damn, it's gone..."

 

Also had once when I sat down with my meal, I'd heard like 2-3 of them squeak in succession and I was just like "Yeah... thanks for the approval. It smells delicious indeed.". Had another when I was having a whole box of pizza, the moment I would goto take a bite I would hear the mouse squeak. I looked around and didn't see it but I went to bite like 5-6 more times and it squeaked each time. I guess it was excepting me to drop a piece... I wasn't doing that though o_o I just ignored it and ate my pizza after that. Didn't squeak anymore, lol.

 

So I don't really mind them, aside from the fact they're a intruder in my house and chewing on my furniture, getting into my food and what not. I'd have one as a pet if they didn't have a short lifespan (iirc when I looked it up awhile back it said their lifespan 1-3 years). I wouldn't want to get a pet and lose it so soon.

Because they carry disease more specifically leptospirosis and rat bite fever. Another reason is just the them crawling too fast as climbing up your leg is terrifying. Granted, I worked on mice (BALB C and Sprague Dawley) back in college but those aren't terrifying and they're scheduled to die. Lab rats should all be male as part of the protocol to prevent them from creating offspring as infant mice literally looks like pink gummy bears and it's disgusting.

They will nibble on you when you sleep.

I think most people scream though because of their rapid erratic movement. They're tiny, there's really no reason to be afraid of them. Though I'd probably scream if one started running up the inside of my pant leg. *shudder*

Eh, speaking of timing. Caught my 5th with a humane trap today.

 

Got two cats but they're BFFs with them. :|

 

But yeah it's a nuisance, they poop everywhere.
