You turned off Android location services your location with regards to the cell towers you connect to will always be reported whether it's to the carrier or 911 operator. That doesn't get turned off because idk? Safety. Google was collecting that data.

The article treats those services as if they are one in the same and it is not. Do I think Google should collect it anyway? No not without asking, but this is overblown.

You will be surprised how much of your info actually got send to other companies without your knowledge.

Saw it on reddit once a guy from a local supermarket said all those "member card" has another functionality. It will basically logs everything you buy and sort out what kind of buyer you are. Then those info are gonna get sent to another company. That company will collet a bunch of these data and then sell these data to advertisers.

So dont be surprised that they are miking from you. It is common business practice.

Also if you are thinking that this alone proofs that apple is more noble than google... please dont compare companies like that.... it does not draw you any conclusion and it is meaningless.

They are businesses and they make money. As long as they do not brake the law, everything is allowed. (technically) Just go see how much tax apple is trying to avoid and got away with it. Is it ethical? Hmmm probably not. Is every big company doing it? Absolutely yes.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Not really, I just thought I'd be funny to apply the exact same argument we invariably get when Microsoft is on the "fucking around with your metadata" side.

this still dosent solve the fact that the mobile space basically has no option to Google for most of the market and is why we are in a way OK with it, we are not but we have no choice but to be

Their main business is as an analytics/advertising platform.

Or you can AOSP rom with microG, Adaway to block Google servers, and Afwall+ to jail apps that have no business connecting to the internet.

The beauty of Android to be able to use it however you like as long as you have the know-how or determination.

That doesn't excuse the problem at hand.

Let's look at the vast majority of people instead of a select few who have the time and patience to fuck with their phone; they're not gonna know about that shit and won't like it when they find out that Google's been data farming even when they've said not to.

Just because you can solve the problem doesn't make the problem excusable, especially when it's intentional.

Those who know don't trust google, and those who don't know don't care.

Google is probably the one of the best companies to trust with your data. They use it for themselves and give a shit about security on their server side.

There are plenty of smaller companies that people "trust" yet probably have been breached and just dont know or dont want people to know. Until google gets breached or someone starts stalking me because they are actively tracking me with this data, I dont give two shits about where they know I am.
