Sapphire NITRO Vega 64 leaked + performance numbers.

TheRandomness

Quote

This Radeon RX Vega 64, the one with the GPU has 4096 stream processors, holds a custom tri-fan cooler that tries to keep the card at lower temperatures whilst remaining at hopefully a fairly low and inaudible RPM. Judging from the video, that seems to be in order. From the looks of things, only that VEGA chip is the one thing original, as hey the PCB was modified and customized to seat that RX Vega 64 chip with its onboard 8GB of HBM2. The end result is a beefy looking card alright, at three PCIe slots wide.

It looks beautiful, to say the least.

Looks really nice, but the performance bump is unimpressive. I mean, it can barely outperform a reference Vega 64.

I'd really like to know how much power this card draws. :D

Is a bump of that much impressive in those benchmarks? It seems like it's only a sliver better. I don't know, because I find those benchmarks pointless. IMO I doubt the price increase will be worth it in that situation...though temps would have been an interesting thing to see.

I've got 2 x 8-pin and 1 x 6-pin on my 980Ti, it's not scary at all ^_^ I love the looks of the card though, seriously why isn't Vega better... XFX made a cool one too...

Raja probably caught is office on fire with it and they lost the only next gen card they had.

hummm...i don't like this one...it looks wierd IMHO...the sapphire one looks better...it looks like an EVGA card.

And yeah, Vega sucks...these cards should cost less than a 1070 because they don't overclock (again) and they consume so much more power for essentially the same performance and probably even less if you overclock the nvidia cards. (see those benchmarks how they tested with FE cards, running at bone stock, probably heat trottling and stuff...GPU boost 3 not kickin in yo!...)

The XFX card looks this way because the PCB is as short as it was on a Fury X thanks to HBM, the "cut" in the middle is where the power connectors are :P

Too bad I can only watch those cards on pictures, no point in buying one as my heavily OC'd 980Ti performs pretty much like an aircooled Vega 64 already...

it's probably rocking even better in nvidia optimized titles, which means, in most titles.

Eh vega isnt that bad if your willing to tweak its settings (alot).  Im sad only the 64 seems to be getting oem designs as 56 is actually a pretty good card

with the size and power consumption and heat output of that thing, it should be pushing out way better numbers...double die shrink was non effective on AMD's side since these cards are only a few % faster than 28nm FuryX. if that ain't bad...i don't know what is.

Is ASUS ever going to release the one they were building with 2 vega dies on one pcb?

They haven't even released the one with a single Vega die... I wouldn't hold my breath.

to be honest mate. I dont even understand why they bothered.

Custom or not, they aint going to get much if anything out of that piece of shit architecture. They should have just put a Nvidia Founders Edition cooler on it , put a custom shroud ontop and called it a day (NV blower has vapor camber, basic AMD uses only fat copper slug)

My Bullshit meter thinks this is slight BS because it is betting the 1080 ( grant FE ) but still that seems kinda seems not right.sapphire-nitro-rx-vega-64-3.jpg.ba0b99f08dbaf7a7d39a1a1360c44fd2.jpg

The real question is how loud is it in comparison to the reference card. Cause if it gets that performance and doesn't sound like a jet engine than that's a definite improvement

Vega 64 was slightly faster than the 1080 in Firestrike, so that looks perfectly legit.

It's just a sign that Firestrike is not a precise indicator of gaming performance.

i don't really get it either why those companies (XFX, asus MSI etc.) even bother spending R&D money on making custom boards and coolers for such a shit piece of silicon, these cards will stay on shelves until they are greatly discounted at which point they will not make much money if anything.

ofcourse it doesnt perform much better. That is a BINNED card.

it isnt going to run faster even if you light a fire under its ass.

AMD factory overclocked VEGA too hard. They killed the market for the AIBs in order to reach Nvidias "performance tier".

AMD should just cut the crap. They have nothing to give in high end, tehy should no longer aim for 1080+ perf. They dont make money there.

And to back my point, biggest retailer in norway, if you go to GPUs, press "most sold". a USB 3.0 to HDMI dongle sells better then AMDs most selling card, which is a VEGA 56... second best selling AMD card is a dual fan RX 580...

And AMDs cards only appear after 2/3rds of Nvidias portfolio....

AMD admitted themselves, that the majority market is in the 200-300$ segment, and as such, tehy should focus ALL resources on nailing that market. Offer ONE option "above" that market. and thats it. Dont bother chasing Nvidia. They dont have the resources. GCN doesnt allow them to do so.
