is it my cpu or gpu thats broken.

it powers on. power supply works.  monitor and hdmi cable are not the problem.  ram works. 

 

monitor recieves no display signal.

 

all fans move but oddly enough, my usb peripherals dont light up.  is this because its not booting into windows? 

 

is there a way to tell if the computer is functioning without seeing anything on screen?

 

i rewired everything and did so correctly i believe.

 

the problem possibly was caused when my cpu cooler fan fell off from the heatsink.  could it have been the fall impact on the gpu or the cpu overheating?

1. If you're using intel, then remove the GPU and just use the native HDMI/VGA/DVI or whatever port on the Mobo itself and check to see if it posts
2. If it posts, check to see if the hardware that is currently connected is detected in the BIOS menu
3. Insert GPU and try to post it again, and check in the BIOS again if its detected

a system would power off without ram but wouldnt it power off with no cpu?

 

should i just leave my system running and see if heat is generated onto the hestsink?

i reinstalled the video card twice.

 

my hdmi cable was always in the gpu port.  not the motherboard

The system can be turned on and deliver power without a CPU. 

I would inspect the CPU and ensure that all pins are present and undamaged. Check your CPU_FAN header since some boards won't POST if there's no connection there.

if your usb devices don't light up then it's possible that the usb headers are bad or even worse that it short-circuited itself.

good to know the PSU works still.

good to know that the ram still works.

 

If the os doesn't boot and if you hear a series of beeping in a specific order it will be the cpu if not the gpu.

heatsink is slightly warm.  either the cpu is generating heat or my hands are just cold

they dont light up on either the io ports or the front ports.  and that still wouldnt explain the display problem.

 

its more likely that its one problem than several

reason for wifi and bluetooth stick not lighting up could be that windows is not booting

is your motherboard 8-pin plugged in?

try taking out your CPU entirely and seeing if anything changes. if not, then CPU is most likely the issue

if the CPU is being detected right now, when you remove it I'd expect a much quicker bootloop time. expect the motherboard to turn on/off faster if there's a different.

is it possible that the cpu could have overheated due to the cooling fan (sycthe mugen 5) not being adhered properly?  i just fixed it tonight.  before, it hanged on, but didn't directly touch the heatsink.  i barely overclocked and the heatsink i have is gigantic, but it's possible
