3200 CAS 16 ($160) or 3000 CAS 15 ($195)?

Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

Go with the faster RAM. The difference is negligible but it's cheaper.

I will be using an intel i5 8600k a 1080ti and Asus - ROG Strix Z370-I Gaming Mini ITX LGA1151 motherboard. I was going to buy the 3000 ram but today I noticed the 3200 was cheaper, so I almost bought it right away cause it is on sale apparently. But then I noticed the latency is higher and I am wondering which one will perform better for gaming or if the difference would be negligible in which case the $35 price difference will be the determining factor. Or should I just wait for black friday/cyber monday?

Thx in advanced.

As others have said, Use the cheaper one.

Really, the CAS-to-frequency ratio is the same - so unless you plan to overclock, the speeds shouldn't matter much.

I say that, but generally you'd be able to more finely tune a CPU that has a higher frequency/CAS; for each increment is slightly less percentage-wise.

Not worth spending more on slower ram that has slightly tighter timings. If you really wanted to, you could down clock the cheaper kit and potentially get cas14 if you wanted or tighten to cas15 on stock speed.

The 3200-16 will do slightly better.

I don't really understand why the 3000-15 is so expensive.

I just care about in-game performance in terms of fps, not that ram is the most important for that.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
