Point is the actual technology behind it.

Can easily tell if they used the same technology by checking out if this new microsoft mouse would track on glass or not. And do you think Micorosoft will be promoting Logitech Darkfield?! This is like Intel promoting AMD Graphics in their CPU. It won't happen.

Sorry for the revival, but Microsoft finally put a video showcasing the mouse. In addition, and more interestingly to the conversation here, we can see the mouse scroll wheel click system. The mouse works completely differently than the Logitech MX series. Microsoft mouse uses a magnet to create the steps of the wheel, so that the mouse remains silence when you scroll:
