"Killing Console Builds" Not Really..

JLCitadel

I was not "competitive in CS" just a CS player, i know how to aim :P

Ah then a normal match it is. Do you play GO, Source, or 1.6?

I'm no lit professor, but if he told you that you can use that word like that, I would definitely be skeptical of the rest of what he says.

At first, that appears to be an acceptable use but if you take that to a strict definition it's completely wrong use. He may have not been thinking when he said that or approved it.

I suppose you'd be right, and I think you could probably twist it into meaning something along those lines. & eh he's a horrid prof, so I'd believe you over him.

Itll provide the same experience. I dont see why it wouldnt in your eyes. Cod is cod no matter where it is.

that's a shortsighted opinion & I don't even feel the need to express why it is different if you don't understand from what I've said previously.

I agree that people claiming a $500 PC is better than a $500 console are misguided. It simply isn't.

An 8 year old Xbox 360 runs Battlefield 4. An 8 year old $500 PC wouldn't even run Windows 7. I know there's much more to it than longevity, but for people on a tight budget that's probably one of the major factors.

I mean, I personally believe spending $800 or so on a PC up front is a far better investment than a console, and you'd save money on games and services in the long run. But not everyone games like I do.

I bet I can get a 8 year old pc to run bf4 and win7 thats only a little before c2d c2q era stuff your talking about there so its nit going to be a problem especially at the resolution that its actually rendered at on the 360.

Another thing to note, if you build a 400$ PC in 2006, you'd be struggling to run games like half life 2 or GTA SA whereas consoles can play games like GTA 5 and crysis 3.

to be frank with all this talk of streaming games from your computer to a display I'm starting to think it's the PC that will die out first being replaced by either cloud gaming or a home server/computer that sits in it's own closet.

scaling makes it unfeasbalbe, however although moores law is starting to fight back finding ways to be more efficient might negate the downsides to creating bigger dies etc etc

in the same way netflix destroyed dvd's and blu ray? in the same way dvd and blu ray destroyed going to the cinema, like tablets replaced laptops?

there will still be plenty of people (im talking a major percentage) who would rather buy hardware and upgrade as needed much like pay as you go on mobiles and there will be others who dont mind paying $10 or so a month for a certain level of gaming.

im pay as you go/hardware because my finances vary so i buy hardware as and when i can when its up to my requirements. plus if i want to upgrade i can sell my old parts for cash and put it towards new parts.

if your gaming experiance streaming isnt up to your requirements your only option is to pay more....week after week, month after month, $10/month is VERY cheap for say 7870 performance.....but over the course of a year thats $120 which you could likely buy a 7870 for.

also if for some reason money becomes tight youll likely have to cut back on your gaming experiance or do without it all together, wheras with physical hardware....nothing changes, if you really like you can sell it and actually get some money in your hand which isnt an option for pay-to-play.

allot of people like to have what they paid for physically in hand

That's not really the same thing gaming will go medialess and the console Vs PC argument is only ever about gaming so that point is kinda moot.

I believe his point, and do correct me if I'm wrong, is that we will have one device, it will power media streaming, and all we will have is displays and ways to operate them. No actual PC or Console or anything we have a word for. Mainly a 'server' that functions as a power and operating center for our different displays.

Agreed ;)

That is what a computer is, and if you mean that it would be a remote server, that's just stupid, we need to progress not regress. a remote server is just a remote computer or remote computers connected to you via the internet. imagine weather goes bad and you lose network connectivity, bam there goes everything. Remote hosting isn't anything great and having something remote in your home including wireless devices is also stupid in the case of power cuts etc. This is not a perfect world and you'd have trouble if you want to travel and your power goes out, your remote device cannot connect to the server. a PC is already what people dream of. they just don't seem to see this because manufacturers are trying to limit what goes to pc and focuses on consoles etc.

I agree with this, I enjoy my PC, but most people just like to play some games, without any messing about, updating drivers and all that jazz. I'm not going to lie, I hate sitting in a computer chair for 4+ hours straight, but I can sit in front of a TV + console for 10+ hours straight back when I used to achievement hunt on Xbox.

If I had a decent 1080p+ TV I'd hook up my PC to the TV and use my controller for sure, but meh.

See the ling is that the enthusiast market especially the hardcore is very hard to kill.

Stuff like you mentioned already happens and will proceed further which is why a better internet backbone is needed as that is the only thing thats going to stop this at the moment.

Well drivers with geforce experience are pretty much as simple as their going to get I would think until steamOS where it just does it possibly without even telling you. As for your Computer chair why not get a comfier one then? There is always the option of just hooking your PC up to the TV since you prefer the couch + TV experience. There are still some games that I prefer in that fashion as well which is why my HTPC has a more powerful GPU than needed for just HTPC purposes.

the way i see it get what you can afford i think a console is okay if you have a pc that can run most games i still think some pc gaming is better than no pc gaming. consoles for me are the social side of gaming because more people have them i dont know if its just me but pc gaming just feels lonely sometimes. dont get me wrong ive made some great friends on pc just not as many as when i was on xbox

the way i see it get what you can afford i think a console is okay if you have a pc that can run most games i still think some pc gaming is better than no pc gaming. consoles for me are the social side of gaming because more people have them i dont know if its just me but pc gaming just feels lonely sometimes. dont get me wrong ive made some great friends on pc just not as many as when i was on xbox

I never have made any lasting relationships from console gaming where I have though PC gaming more than once.
