Your choice. I would not include the heatsinks if they did not mount properly, as they are useless and just add extra cost. If you do choose to include the Xeons, I would leave an option in the description to exclude them to save some cost, assuming you are on a platform like craiglist where the price is negotiable. Those are low end xeons, so most people would rather put higher end xeons in there, meaning it adds extra cost. If you plan to put it up on ebay, I would put just the motherboard and nothing else. Maybe make another listing for the xeons, idk.

Include the CPUs to protect the LGA pins in shipping. Damage to the pins on that board would be a deadly sin worthy of a special place in Hell.

They should be. MSI Intel boards are also really nice. But ASUS is the best IMO, just often more expensive.

IDK... mine are good. Getting to 99C tho, so I'm gonna set all my fans to high. But I'm not a hobo spec geek, so IDK about all this VRM stuff. @Lord Nicoll would probably know more than me.

Yes. I have the Rampage III Formula, and like I said, got it to 4.2GHz with no problems, literally just punching in the numbers from a YouTube video.

I don't recall any major manufacturer having VRM issues or things that affect basic functionality of the board. I think X58 was introduced in a time where RGB and all the little bits and bobs and shit was a thing of the future. Boards (especially the higher end ones like the rampage ii and iii, ex58-extreme, msi big bang, asrock deluxe/extreme, etc) focused more on actually useful features related to overclocking over looks. Now believe me, that doesn't mean they sacrified on looks; quite the opposite is true. I prefer basic paint jobs that were present on boards from that era over fully black boards loaded with RGB. 

 

Just compare the features listed on ASUS's website between the Rampage III extreme and the new X299 Rampage VII extreme. You'll see that a lot of advertised features focus on looks.

My point is that MSi boards back in that day were truly more high end then they are today. I think many used MSI back in that day, the Xpower big bang series was regarded as one of the best.

People like to hold on to their X58 and X79 platforms for their dear life, they sell it at an absurdly high cost. Again partially because of the higher quality of enthusiast boards back in the day, but mostly because of the long life span added once you pop in a dirt cheap 6-core 12-thread Xeon.

No, but the cost seems to be around $600 (converted and estimated if the rare board is on sale in my country)

There's been lots more on the market lately tho. Ask @WhisperingKnickers, even EVGA SR-2s are coming in at reasonable prices. I think it's due to people holding out this long, but then upgrading to Coffee Lake.

Still though, you have to remember it's a 6 or 7 year old board. That's not a bargain, as you can get a full Ryzen + mobo + ram combo for that much that will likely blow any x58 cpu out of the water.

Yes, very much so. I'm seeing a plethora of people on the r/Intel subreddit lamenting about their X58 platform and how excited they are for coffee lake. Either that or they are reluctant to get rid of it, but in any case, they are upgrading

Yep. I think because X99 is expensive, Z170/270 has similar performance to an overclocked 6c/12t Xeon, same with Ryzen, and X299 was way expensive and messed up. So Coffee Lake makes sense.

Like I said in the PM, you'll want a better mobo and GPU. What games are you planning on playing? Because the RX550 isn't that powerful, a 1050 Ti would be much better.

In Germany there is one (x79) for 240€ buy it now. 

 

I also have an MSI board, though its basically as low end as you can go, and it can‘t properly run the x series Xeon, but it runs 220 BCLK without any issues, and more than that with some difficulties (the highest I managed somewhat stable (cinebench stable) was 240, the highest I got booting was 250. If I get the e5640s I‘ll try going for a bit more, though I think I‘ll need to get a PCI GPU (don‘t wanna fry my GTX 670 with too much PCIe clock) and get active cooling for my Chipset which gets pretty hot at 240 already. 

Also think I somehow managed to kill the turbo on my e5649, I just can‘t get it to boot with it enabled.

Also, you might want to take a look at X99 boards right now. As x299 is getting more widespread, Newegg and other sites are clearing out stock of X99 boards. There are also a lot of refurbs floating about, something I did when I bought an ASUS refurbished X99 deluxe off of Ebay for $120. The board is very nice! Xeons are not as cheap on X99 as they are on the X58 platform sadly, though I still thought it was worth mention.
