Is a little Skylake Xeon welcome? I know it's not X58 but it's a Xeon.

So if you get an X58 Xeon and have your Skylake Xeon, you get double XCMR points.

At school I use a HP Z400 for one of my classes, that's got a X58 compatible Xeon.

HP Z400 does have a X58 chipset :P It's a good PC but doesn't support overclocking

Quick question. I know it may be addressed already, its a lot of posts. (and I asked in the general cpu forum)

 

Currently have a FX-6350. I hate it. Will a X5670 be any type of upgrade when it comes to gaming? If not, can you suggest a Xeon that is affordable and easy to overlock?

I have never used the FX series so I can't say definitively but I have heard bad things about it. I know that the 5670 does great for gaming and if you are looking for a xeon that is good at overclocking then pretty much any x58 xeon will be good for you. 

 

The most popular ones seem to be the 5650's and the 5670's because they are pretty cheap but they perform really well. Check ebay and look for LGA 1366 xeons. Pretty much any will be good and you can google the specific chip to find more info

Oops, put some wrong settings into the first Xeon and broke it, if requiring 1.63V for booting at 4.4 GHz counts as breaking it. I think the temp sensor and some other stuff broke, at least I don't trust these temps at these voltages under air (my water cooler hasn't arrived yet)

Died at 1.7V and 4.5 GHz.

Should be great. I have an X5675, and it’s great for gaming at stock, and crushes it when overclocked.

That would be a big upgrade. Overclocked X5670 easily beats overclocked FX9590 in single and multicore :D

post screenshots or phone photos of your bios settings for all relevant pages-- memory, cpu, and overall?

 

Nothing jumps out at me as obviously wrong from that photo.

You guys have Mobo suggestions for overclocking the X5670 without breaking the bank? Going to put an evo 212 on it. I got DDR3 laying around as well as a SSD.

Look for a Rampage III Formula, I managed to snag one for $120 including the X5675 CPU, and @WhisperingKnickers got one for a similar price.

Lucky, all the ones I see are much more expensive. With the cost of Mobos, not even sure its worth it. Can probably get an Sandy Bridge I7 and Mobo for the same price.

Depends on what you’re doing, but the Xeon will probably have a higher multi core score.
