Can't tell if that's a good or bad thing. Whatever the case may be, I think it's ok to talk about the theoretical mechanics of a platform without physically owning it. I think the only aspect of it that you can't discuss to people until you've actually done it is overclocking though. Youtube tutorials don't always translate to success or good advice

yeah, but i am planning to buy a $500 PC. can i PM you to have a good upgrade path (spoiler alert : PC is Ryzen powered)

"Make it future proof for some years at least, don't buy "only slightly better" stuff that gets outdated 1 year, that's throwing money away" @pipoawas

-Frequencies DON'T represent everything and in many cases that is true (referring to Individual CPU Clocks).

Mention me if you want to summon me sooner or later

Note 10, S10, Samsung becomes Apple, Zen 2, 3700X, Renegade X lol

IDK... mine are good. Getting to 99C tho, so I'm gonna set all my fans to high. But I'm not a hobo spec geek, so IDK about all this VRM stuff. @Lord Nicoll would probably know more than me.

I mean my servers mostly have 4 and 6 phase power stages, and do not get that hot, but there is super nice airflow over them. From my understanding, X58 wasn't that bad.

Yours faithfully

Btw, anyone in the states looking for an SR-2 - there is an ebay seller who has 10 left in stock for 290$ each Search for "270-WS-W555-A2" and you'll find them.

I think you can get them cheaper, @WhisperingKnickers got his from that guy, I forget what he got him down to. Because you have to add on the $80 for shipping.

For an SR2 it isnt a bad deal but keep in mind that is super expensive for a motherboard and that most people don't already have a case big enough for this motherboard which means you will need a new one. Then, the cheapest good quality case that supports a mobo this size is an additional $200. I mean you can do what I did and mod a NZXT S340 to fit one but for anyone interested in getting one keep in mind the other things you might need in addition.

Also the heatsinks didn't come with mounts and the board didn't come with an io shield. IF someone does get it though I can link you to a heatsink that is compatible (most 1366 heatsinks are not)

Yes! And it is a modular AIO (even better: copper based), so I have some pretty stupid ideas for the future :P

Yeah, that last session definitely degraded my Xeon. In the beginning, I was able to boot 4.75 GHz (250x19), and in the end, the highest I could still manage was 4.72 (248x19).

RIP. Mine sits happy at 4.2GHz with hyperthreading off (still a better multi-core score than at stock with HT on), but IDK how to get it any higher.

Pff, 4.2 is boring, especially with your board and CPU. 4.37 or 4.6 should be possible for sure with the right cooling, probably lots more even.

It only degraded because I was running 1.5V through it with a too weak cooler and weak power phases on the board I'm using (mine has 5 phases, my old 775 board has 8)

Ah. IDK much about OCing tho, literally punched in the numbers from a YouTube vid and then tweaked the BLCK clock a teensy bit. But IIRC my temps max at 70C or so, so I should have some temp room.

Unfortunately It will be some time before I am able to experiment with overclocking. After 2 or 3 weeks of not having a usable computer I have lost patience with the SR-2 (for the time being that is) and now I am running my original dual socket system as seen in my signature. Albeit in a modded S340 case which I may or may not "un-mod"

Also my sound isn't working and I'm not sure why. I was going to download the drivers for my sound card but I don't remember which model it was and I need to know in order to get the right driver :/
